Keep it going Das! Looking fantastic. Sorry to interupt but going to hi-fill the bottom of my pan on the weekend and want to know what brand of Hi-fill did you use and would you recommend it. I am after something that is really easy to sand and isn't to gluggy to fill up all seams etc. I am going to do something a little different to the underneath of my car so I want it almost perfect. Cheers again and keep it up,

Worst case scenario is that if they turn out crap, well you've wasted a few bucks and a weekend. To get custom kick panels made by a car audio shop you will pay a minimum of $300......the materials will cost way way less so give it a go!

Managed to sand down and cut off the edges and trial fit the kicks again....a little more trimming/sanding is required to get them to slot in all the way (didn't want to force them in for now and risk getting them stuck!).

There are a few gaps....as I said, this kick was not in place properly for the pic - it was too late to fire up the air tools again (angled die grinder with sanding disc, die grinder with flap wheel, and cut off tool) - lots of high pitch squeals the neighbours I am sure love hearing!

More work tomorrow hopefully. My watsons streetworks wiring kit should be here tomorrow...so hopefully I'll be able to crank the stereo some time in the near future....not to mention start the damn thing!! $hit this project is taking a long time

Nah, didn't have the day off....but got a new puter so had to sort out all the files and software before uploading the new pics.

Turned out to be a $hitty day anyway - readjusted the rear spring plates but somehow (which is strange because I've done it many times before) screwed up one side so it is higher than the other. To top it off, one of the $hithouse brazilian axle boots split (again not excessively twisting it or anything like that) and dropped gearbox oil all over the new concrete. So lots of joy.

Ah well, here is the view with the rear wheel off - you can see the 35mm spacer (yes I have talked to the automotive engineer).

...and the 10mm stainless fuel line poking out of the tunnel, going into the -8AN fittings plus filter, then up to bulkhead fitting.

More work will continue on the kick panels today - I am going to leave the rear suspension for a day I am a little less angry ;)

Not too much done today (busy with house reno's) - managed to put a couple of primary layers of filler on the kick panels to rough in the shape. Still more sanding, glaze filling, high build priming etc before paint (brings back memories for the body work!).

Alan,
I had the same problem with setting my rear torsion bars. Has happened twice! Seems that when you are setting near the unsprung angle of the torsion bar (for a real low car) the take up spring rates appear to be different.

Great work with the fibreglass. Bet you are handy at fixing board dings also!

Yeah I was pretty sure I had it right (as I've done it lots of times before) but obviously something went wrong - ah well, whats another couple hours work!

Ding repairs will be a lot easier after doing this f'glass work! Fortunately haven't had to do any for a while!

A couple more coats of filler, followed by sanding, followed by filling etc occurred after work. Still a bit more to go before its ready for primer....then there will be a bit more as that will show up a few more blemishes!

Yep custom vw modular wiring kit:

Will let you know how it goes but I have been highly impressed thus far, the instructions and colour coded diagrams have been excellent.

Well, another few hours spent o readjusting the rear suspension height - evened out side to side and set to best compromise between slam-factor (desirable) and usability (ground clearance). Still looks pretty good.
