and some more of the interior
i wanna keep the areas that run along the inside of the roof gutters that are usually covered by the headlining exposed, and also along the front
above the windscreen
gonna have to tuck the trim that will cover the ragtop assembly into this area somehow
should be fun!

and yes jim, you were right about the larger holes for the speaker/speedo area
i have been working on some templates for the dash that i have now completed in peruvian walnut (this was the best timber that i could find to match
the flat4 steering wheel and eliminator shifter)
here is a picture of the templates in original form (5mm MDF) which i cut out with a jigsaw and them spent hours filing back to get the profiles to
match the dash

thanks at this juncture go to nick for letting me cut the dash out of a wreck so that i could spend the next 3 weekends sanding up the templates
anyways, once they were sanded, the services of another mate (carpenter, not aussieveedubber) needed to be employed. thanks dave.
together we used the templates and some pretty trick attachements to his router and plunger and cut the walnut to the exact same shape as the mdf
(damn - i thought i had uploaded this pics of the walnut) |

ok:
as promised, here are pics of the walnut dash.
you cant tell from these how dark it will be.
i have stained it since then.
guages mount up to fit flush, with chrome surrounds
i will put in a standard speedo i think for RWC and rego etc, but im toying with the idea of fitting a t3 orange needle (kms) speedo to suit the other
VDO guages i have.
i think that the orange needle would add some consistency to the look of the dash.
.... anyway, just dreaming now.
here are the pics of the dash prior to staining. i sat them up to look like it will when finished
hope they worked, its been a while since i posted pics

will also be keeping the original chrome and attaching it to the dash to continue the horizontal line that i like so much about the flat screen
bugs.
i have had the central bit of chrome shortened and rechromed to fit, cos the guages meant that it was about 15mm too long
also got some billet dash knobs to fit up too

then more rubbing and lots of careful fitting off (thanks sasha) prior to painting.
all the hang offs were fitted up as a check prior to being pulled off and painted seperately. doors were painted on the car.
here it is prior to colour going on
keep in mind that i am a slow mover when it comes to posting these pics, and all this work was done some months ago.

you can see from the last pic that the T bar on the Eliminator shifter is too close to the stereo box.
this has been modified since.
just another of the problems when doing everything a little different
thats it for me tonight
next update: paint is on!!

Awesome stuff Kim....it certainly is a monentous occasion getting that body back onto pan and one that I can't wait for!!
Just out of curiosity, why is the body being painted on the pan (considering the need for masking up etc)? I'm sure there is a good reason!
Cheers
Alan
