what about the audi boxes there used in gt40 reps and there might be enough room to rotate the diff centre.I,ve been told subie auto boxes have the
room to rotate the diff.

What have ratios got to do with anything. Its got porsche ratios remember. Its also made to take good hp, thats teh only reason people look at them.
Aparently you cannot help look at them they are that big.
What ratios are you looking for anthony??? If you have a turbo, please tell me you're not considering a close ratio box...tall..tall is what you
need, as boost is your best friend and likes legs not changes. Even with a lbug 3.88 I am looking at taller 4th, and the rest are perfect.

anthony there more ratio,s for a porsche box than you can point a stick at.the reno box,s are very long from the centre of the drive shaft to the
seleter end of the box.if your looking at 200kw @ the wheels + porsche box and support the motor as porsche do in the 911 don,t have all the weight
hanging of the gearbox which will twist the box and screw your gears.

Hi Anthony
Maybe they are a great gearbox, but where can you buy one?
As for G50 ratios, this is what I have, sorry its in MPH, they look good for a turbo to me.

porsche used a 4 speed G50 in the 930 turbos so they could stretch their legs ,hard box to find though.a 915 can handle 500hp with the right setup.
what is the point a having all the power in the world and to scared to put it to the road whether its ej20t or hipo vw.

thats different ratios that i saw last time i looked steve. i think i saw somewhere that g50's had a 2. something final drive. which would probably
be a bit tall. but i must have been given the wrong info. those ratios look pretty good.
and as far as diff ratios for porsche boxes go im sure there are heaps but they cost the price of most peoples cars.
and i had the number of a palce that imports the un5's for about 2 grand i think.
i will have a look see if i can find it again..

No, Porsche use the four-speed because the then-current five-speed (1970s) couldn't take the torque
Good point about having all that power and no way to use it - the gearbox is usually the weakest link!

Okay I have a small question:
The single side plate boxes, did they ONLY come out in L Bugs?
If so, woo hoo I have an L Bug box in my '72 already!
I'm assuming they only came out in L's.

vwcool if that is the case why didn,t they just build a 5 speed G50 from the start.at that time their 911 boxes weren,t strong enough and the 901 box
wasn,t much stronger than a single side plate L bug box.

Hi
Late Type 3s had them as well, and they had a 4.125 final drive rather than the L bugs 3.88
Anthony, you may have seen my old 3.88 box ratios quoted earlier.

Thanks guys.
And Pete, if that comment about it being time for an EJ20T was for me, I agree which is why I've started the conversion.

Dunno! I'm just explaining why there was no five-speed in the original 930. Too much torque.
Wouldn't it be good if we could turn the diff around in a WRX box so it could run five forward speeds rather than five reverses!... :cry
