never felt so low

:cry:cry:cry
its happening again. decided to start the old girl up again today, she had run fine on sunday, after a few electrical niggles (got some bad connections somewhere) i managed to get the old girl turning over strongly, minus fuel pump, had a bit of a play, got the fuel pump going (although not as loud as i remembered it to be) turned her over again, crank, crank, CRACK stopped turning, tried again, cranked a couple of times then a god awful noise, i hoped for the best(thought maybe just a backfire or somehting), tried one last time, crank, crank CRACK!!! and with the crack everything seized. i got a spanner onto the pully and couldnt turn it in either direction :cry
i havent felt this low since last time i busted her. it has taken me 6 months and all my money to get an engine in her again and get her running and now she makes this horrible noise and i havent even gotten to drive her again! i just feel so low. i dont think i want to know what has gone wrong, but any suggestions would be appreciated. i dont knwo where to start.
:cry:cry:cry:cry

you need to check everything before you try and run the car dude,

never assume something is ok, CHECK IT!
could have been anything, but im guessing it was a lack of oil/ oil pressure.
what kind of engine did you put in it? was it old, do you know the history of it?

yer shit happens man

are we talking kombi ?...if so the needle & seat lets go and because your fuel tank
is above your motor gravity takes over. there for slowly filling your donk with fuel
causing a hydrolock { barrels full of fuel pistons turn cant compress ,bend con rod}
had it happen it sucks ,dump your oil & see :o

try pulling out the starter. I think you might find it's not engaging properly and ripped a tooth or two off. I did the same and it sounds frightening.

What motor is it...

That storey sounded familiar...was your description a while back the same pete? If so...turn that frown upside down.

yeah, starter is what i am hoping, but it was a god-aweful sound. motor sat for 3 years, was rebuild then about 12 months down the track the gearbox went so the owner just dumped the car on his property. having said that my uncle ran the engine several times for fair periods of time while it was still in the donor cas (a subaru brumby) with no issues at all, even hauled the ute around in 2nd (the only gear left in the 'box) and i had her running beautifully on sunday for about 15min, so i can only desperately hope that it is nothing internal cos i cant afford the damage, but also it wouldnt make sense when it was running so well.

bloody miracle, undid the bolts to the starter and lo-and-behold it was jammed rock solid in there. bashed at it a little then managed to get a screwdriver in and lever it out of the way, no visible damage to starter or flywheel. it seems the offset isnt quite right on my flywheel, cos every proper starter that has been in the car has needed a spacer, now i know why! can see scrape marks on the big bulbous part of the starter motor (the silver bit between case and gear). i forgot to space it out this time, know not to make that mistake again! thanks for the support guys! cheers all
