Don't buy Dynamat. Just cos the Yanks import the stuff to Oz there is better and cheaper out there.
It's OK stuff but far to up it's own arse to justify it's pricing.
Do some research people and save yourselves oodles of cash

Ok guys if you want some of the acoustica goodness call Dan on 02 95502900. Let him know that you are from the AVD forum and he'll sort you out. FYI
we are the first to be offered this product, and it's a new product line for them. You can also tell him that Cam sent you!

I took lots of photos and install notes for Dan and wrote out a report for him.
It was a bit of a test bed for the product prototype. I even suggested a name "AcoustiCAR!"

Just to throw another product into the mix, I found an ad in Street Machine for Tru-fit carpets & they have Resomat sound proofing. It is
suposedly used in the Queens Bentley & the U.S. prsidents Caddilac & his helicopters. It says it reduces drumming, etc and replaces PVC and
bitumen products. 3mm thick withindustrial grade self adhesive. You can buy it tiles ( 490mm square) for $13 each or 3.6 sq meteres for $175. They
also have interior firewall insulation, heatproof sheeting & underbonnet noise absorbtion pads which my Dad used under the bonnet of his modified
FC Holden and with the bonnet shut most of the engine noise came thru the grill. The picture also shows Resomat molded to the floor shape of an early
Torana. Since they do molded carpet they may be able to do it it in 1 or 2 pieces for the floor pan. Anyway you can check it out at http://www.tru-fitcarpets.com.au

Pardon the language but F**K ME that stuff is excellent value for money and if it does anywhere near what Dynamat says it does then it's a winner in
my books.

So,
from what I can tell there seems to be three main manufactured 'products' in use by AVD folk.
Dynamat, Resomat and an Acoustica product.
I can see from the thread that waltermitty has done his kombi with Acoustica. I am sure that other folk have used the other products.
What sort of noise reduction (wind/road/vibration) has been experienced - I don't need exact measurements, just peoples thoughts.
How about just a measurement of 'I no longer have to have my stereo up at max to hear it over the engine', or 'I can use my mobile on bluetooth
without yelling.'
Has anyone done a beetle with any of the three products? Which product? What panels did you do?, and how much of each panel did you cover ? (1/4, 1/2
or almost the whole area), the roof?
That way anyone thinking of getting some can work out roughly what area was covered to look at how much product should be bought.
And aside from the cost for the resomat, which is shown above, roughly how much did it cost you to buy and apply (also if you had to go buy your won
adhesive glue/spray) either of the other two products?
I have tried to call Dan, from Acoustica, for three days and can't get him - does anyone know if he still works there? Does anyone know which
Acoustica product is the better one for cars?
The woman I got on the main switch put me through to sales who thought of at least two products but weren't sure which one was better for a car!!!!

The aCOUSTICAR is every bit as good as the Dynamat. As for cost I couldnt sy I was sent a roll to test and feed bacck.
Results are excellent remember these products are dampeners nort proofing and as such they are excellent for reducing resonance and drumming of
pannels.
I had enough product to do all but the roof here I used some compressed rubber sheeting from clark. it is weighty and about 3 mm thick it also does
an excellent job and for 20 a 1,2 x 1,8 m sheet VERY Cost effective.
Also be aware that the roof of a car gets very hot so adhesion is important you dont want your tar based flashmat products falling of and onto your
new headlining! Also some products are more stable than others which can cause odor problems with heat see Clarks high density foam as not for
roofs.

Ta Mitchell,
so the products name is Acousticar  was confused when I rang them
the other day and the guy really didn't know what I was after.
I know they aren't sound proofing, I don't even have that with our new Golf - just want to deaden the noise a bit.
I was worried about the roof with a tar/bitumen based product due to heat etc. I was thinking of just horsehair again instead, but maybe the Clark
rubber sheet will be the better option.
Did you have any issue with putting standard carpet over the top of it or did you go for a custom carpet set? I am guessing that 3mm really isn't
that big a difference for a carpet kit.

If you talk to Daniel He is the production mamger I think. he knows what it is I suggested calling it acousticar but dont know if the name stuck?
I only used the clarke product on the roof under the headlining its very good its like %80 as good as the dynamat acoustica bit %5 price.
As for the floor I have the acioustica in the cab but I have not attached it I dont like the idea of gluing stuff to the floor for rust reasons.
The Trufit carpet heavy duty underlay with bitumen shield is the go i think thier other products look OK also check out their site.

Ok people - I work for the Australian importer an distributor of Dynamat. I've been through the posts and would like to clear up some things.
1) Dynamat is a buytl rubber based product
2) Dynamat is designed and tested to withstand the heat of firewalls and roofs.
3) Dynamat is self adhesive - and again - tested to withstand the heat without falling off.
4) A usual 3.3m2 bulk pack weighs 9kg
Dynamat cost's more because of 1,2,3 and 4.
R&D and freight cost money.
Shops are also allowed to make a profit. That's why they're in business.
If you want to try another product thats cool - But the reason places like Das Resto, Oz Rods, Ziggys, and Bus n Bug use Dynamat is they do not want
to have to strip out the whatever and do it again.
Am I feathering my own nest? Well, I don't do sales - I'm the tech and get no commission. But I have spoken to some of our customers who have used
other brand name products and now will only use Dynamat.
Doing that job twice if whatever you use falls off is a real pain, and you will wish you paid extra to start with.

I'm afraid you'll never win me over on dynamat. It is overpriced IMO with other products doing the same 4 reasons for much less. For an average
DIYer the other butyl products will do a grand job.

The acousticar product satisfies 1, 2 and 4 on your list is just as thick and 1/2 the price. I dont mind rectifying 3 for that sort of savings.

I think Walter just answered my question there. Please don't get on your high horse about a product you endorse. there are many testimonials on the
interweb, if you care to use it, to show that there are other products as good as dynamat.
many unfortunately are not easily available in Oz as Dynamat were able to get in the Oz market early with the finances available to them to do so but
many other European and USA manufacturers do not see Oz as a viable option due to small demographic size of Oz.

I think is was Mitchell that provided a link earlier regarding sound proofing and deadening and the research that has followed from this. From what I
understand, accousticar uses a different technology to Dynamat - Accousticar uses Mass loaded vinyl (MLV) rather than Butyl. I believe MLV has better
sound proofing qualities than Butyl but requires a foam medium to isolate it from the chassis so it doesnt resonate with the body of the car.
If I'm right in my assumption that accousticar uses MLV and it is also cheaper I think with it's advantages is a fay to compli.
Jetzt mache ich meinen Karmann und Käfer zusammen.

Norbert, you may want to check this. While I can't confirm, I think the Acoustica product uses butyl rubber.
