First 1/4 mile event for me and it was a buzz. Learning a car and track for the first time at a major meet wasn't exactly easy, but Rod has his car
well sorted so this made the learning curve softer.
Results:
• 1st round win and my best time for the day with a 12.23@110.66mph against a 11.75 sec Torana. My reaction time of .092 against his .329 made the
difference at the line.
In the second round the car developed a mis-fire and was just pipped at the post by a Cortina on Nitrous, who eventually went through to the
finals.
Thanks to Rod for letting me drive his car, and to Matt for the time and effort organising such a big event. Mmmm...a VWMA quarter mile weekend?

Not sure about big engine blows... Burgo did have one let go in the Plymouth Fury gasser, but that was just a neat little hole.
Wayne did a strong burnout, but by half track it had a lot of smoke. I've heard the clutch got fried. He's probably busy pulling and replacing it
for this weekend.
Good news. DOTD 2012 confirmed for 10-11 March 2012.

pulled the engine from the oval on the tuesday night and stripped it right down , finish at 2am . Found the cam and lifters had been having a
difference of opinion . Metal all through engine .
Crank linish on Wednesday and wash all parts up for reassembly on Wednesday night , finish at 2-30am .
reassemble bottom end thursday night with all new bearings , new cam , new camfollowers , new oil pump etc , finish at 1-30am .
Friday have piston ring-lands machined and assemble top-end , finish 6pm . NEVER work on a friday night , that is reserved for my Louise .
Saturday morning fit rocker gear and pushrod tubes , adjust tappets and close engine . Fit turbo system and injection , finished by midday . lunch
with Louise . Saturday afternoon fit flywheel and clutch assembly , fit engine back into oval and run engine . Test drive up and down street at 7pm
and pack tow vehicle for racing next day , finish 10-30pm . Dinner at Louise place at 11-30pm .
Sunday 5am start , off to DOTD 2011 . Scrutineer oval and all OK . first run , strong burnout and the oval has developed much more power than ever
before.... launch from line with heaps of clutch slip , 2nd gear heaps of clutch slip . I back off in 2nd and clutch grips , stand on the throttle and
it slips again , 3rd gear heaps of clutch slip and then a great loss of power and smoke .
My thoughts are that we dynoed the oval weeks ago with 15psi boost when the cam lift was very low . Now that the valves are opening fully at .550"
lift the boost pressure has risen and not enough fuel has been injected to compensate . I think the engine has run lean in the top-end and may have
suffered piston damage .
Before running the oval again I will strip the engine right down and inspect all parts for wear or damage , and then prepare it for its next run with
a much better clutch set-up .
