It will still be a while until its on the road.
Once its back running I need to remove the front window and do a small rust repair, then replace the hood lining with all the windows out.
Once the hoodlining is done I need to re-fit all the windows with new seals and replace the front window..then she can be driven. After all this is
done i still need to retrim the scat seats and rear seat to match and a new carpet kit..then I will be happy...for now..lol...where do you
stop?????

That's the problem, once the bug has bitten, you don't stop! :P
Sounds like a damn good plan though, hopefully will be ready for Day of The VW though, same with Zelda!

Im unsure whether he has painted beetles before. Do you live south?..If you do he used to work for Hower Crash @ Lonsdale before he started his own
business at Seaford. Southern Crash and Custom .(08) 7185 0710 (Adam).I dont see him as using me as a guinea pig. Any competent painter could paint
your beetle. His rust repair and panel repair is second to none.Heres some pics of my mates Datto that he did a bare metal resto on..around 10k..bear
in mind this had a custom trans tunnel, engine bay mods and rust repairs aswell.

filter.
Also the 2 Autometer gauges came they are both electric short sweep, American Muscle gauges..
And last but not least some button socket head staainless screws and washers to mount all the tinwork!..
So thats about it!..time to get the motor and all this gear sent off!!..Cheers Jason.

Pulled the fuel tank out of the beetle today, starting to get the hood area cleaned up ready for the new powdercoated tank.
i will most probably have a few weeks until the car goes off for the luggage rust repair so it gives me some time to clean up the wiring, sand down the
front hood area, seam seal and blow some colour (Antarctica White) in there.
While messing around in the shed I mocked up a few of the fog lights and spot lights on the front bumper to give myself some ideas!..
This spotlight is a LUCAS branded spottie..
Next is a rare SEV MARCHEL foglight made in France..
And lastly is a rectangle no names from a swapmeet..
..
Personally I like the SEV MARCHAL or LUCAS the best..I think the round lights suit the best..

Got the fuel tank back today..so now I need to clean out the tank of sand from the blasting then fit up the sender, spiggot and filter in the bottom
and large bung in the top. In the next week or so I plan to re-route some wiring under the hood and seam seal all the panel joins and then respray
under the hood before I put the tank back in..

This week I have been getting stuck into prepping the hood area which is now in 2k hi-fill..next is to block it back and spray some Antarctica White
in there..then I have to clean up some wiring before it goes off to the crash shop for rust repairs mid-next week..soo better get my skates on!.

Today I finally put a lick of paint under the hood and it turn out pretty good for pressure packs!. My local paint supplies store sells 2pak primer and mixed colours in cans which makes it easy for me as I dont
have a compressor etc at home.
Tommorrow the car goes off for the luggage panel rust repair so I did a bit more cleaning up removing the rear trims and front seats that I test
fitted.

Good build up there!
Look forward to seeing the end result. Any chance of a $$$$ value for all engine parts and rebuild cost. I have just bought a 69 bug. Body is great
but motor and box needs major work. Wondering if your way is cheaper or if I should buy a reco engine already done.
Have you had any dramas from customs with your packages from the states? I ordered some moto parts from the states and customs took them and I had to
pay nearly $100 for them to release the 4 boxes. What a nightmare that was Nearly blew my moto trip. Was not happy!!! So don't really want that to happen again.....
Look forward to more posts.
Cheers
Paul

Hi mate..I healthy 1916cc short motor will probably set you back about $5000. Then the expense of your ancilleries such as Empi HPMXs or Dellortos,
exhaust etc. Rod Penrose sells motors on this forum but I cant remember his Forum Username..He has engines that he sells pre-built and can help you
with what carbs etcs you would need to run his engines or can probably build a motor to your requirements. Most of the parts for the build I bought
from CIP1 in the states. Never had a problem with customs on parts from CIP1 just keep your orders under $1000 and buy when the aussie dollar is good.
I also use George @ Classic Veedub. He stocks all the quality products such as Flat4 and stocks economy parts and everything in between. Cheers
Jason.

Small update..the car is off at the crash shop and in the process of getting the luggage area replaced. At the same time he suggested to do a little
bit of rust removal around the left rear fender, panel beat and respray the rear apron and respray under the engine hood aswell for minimal $..since
he's working on the area anyway.
On the engine side of things..the 1500 single port was pulled down and after a close inspection and crack testing..the only salvageable parts for the
1916 twin port rebuild are the crank and fly wheel!..lol..Still the case did well for 41 years with the last 3-4 of those years
with stud problems and in need of a rebuild..anyway all will be new and cant wait to see it all come together..will post pics of progress as it comes
about..cheers Jason.

Yep definately excellent work. When I had my rx7 painted else where they took over a year to paint it..This crash repairer has done all this work in
less than a week..they are machines!..
Seam sealing and prepping for paint was being done after I left..should be home for a quick clean up of wiring next week and then ready for the Peter
Debiasi to take the car to fit the new donk!.
The Volksie has definatley been an enjoyable part-rebuild..everything has gone smoothly so far..dare I say?.lol

Front hood seal and engine to body work seals are now in..so next to do is clean up the wiring..A mate of mine is reworking the replacement '70
bonnet but not having much luck flipping the dents out due to the compund curves of the bonnet..so may have to send the original bonnet off the car
the to the crash shop and get that repaired..never thought I would have so much problems with a bonnet!..lol

Im unsure what you mean?..are you meaning the holes iin the firewall?..if you are yours are probably filled because the 1970 doesnt have these
holes..This replacement panel fits super beetle aswell I think and the panel is a brazilian panel..the holes are not used on a '70 beetle. Im using
the holes to relocate the coil pack for the direct fire ignition to inside the cabin and use the hole to route the ignition wires tot he motor..does
this answer you question?.sorry Im not sure what you mean..cheers

On that 4th picture, the luggage area, the 2 holes on the left and right. I am just curious to what they are. =) Not the holes in the firewall
itself.
Im a confusing person haha.

I think they could be mounting points for children harnesses...
Like, those seat things that the babies can sit in, I think that is what they are for, the mounting point for them.
Not 100% sure though.
I know MUm had to have custom ones drilled into her Type 3 at some stage for me

Nah, they were the mountings for the body cradles during production.
They should have metal plugs in them with seam sealer over the top.
