Apart from the one thick power cable for the amps, every other wire if for the normal loom (lights, gauges, ignition etc). Haven't even started wiring up the stereo yet! :duh

Heheh looking good, speaker pods look awesome.

I'm not looking foward to wiring my own car either, even though I wont have a big stereo. Although comparatively, it makes me appreciate how simple the wiring is on our cars, compared to something made in the last 10 years or so.

Holy crap - thats a lot of wires in that pic!

Back to the simple stuff - managed to solder wire ends and insert them into fuse panel. Bit more tidying still to come....and haven't started under the bonnet yet!

I was going to keep this under wraps until painted but I wouldn't want you all to think I haven't been doing anything on the resto would I?? I had the sub box insert panel covered in vinyl by the upholsterer....then filled around the edges to make it a flush fit.

After some more fine filler and high build primer, not to mention more sanding....base and clear coat will go on. Should be a nice contrast with the vinyl. Thats it for now, still busy with the house so progress will be a little slow. :duh

Damn that's looking good! I take it the rest of the sub box will be painted the same colour as the rest of the car? Very nice!

Maybe one day, but then mine would no longer be custom hey ;)

Seriously though, I wouldn't have the time to do a mould to make a production run, but down the track maybe.

Northfield Car Audio at Moorooka in Brissy. Most car audio stores should stock such sound deadener.

Hey Das I thought that wiring set was designed so the fuse's where behind the dash. I like the position your putting it better. Have you come across any problems positioning it under rear seat?

Cheers for the compliments - I absolutely love your car and spent a lot of time looking over it at last Valla. The engineering is a big credit to you! I'd love to fit wheels as big as yours on my car...but that might have to wait for another project some day! The cups will be back on soon trust me!

In the instructions it says you can mount under bonnet or under rear seat so I have come across no dramas thus far. All of the wiring is long enough to account for either location - only one wire I have had to extend because it went from the fuse box to speedo (generator light) then back to the alternator - everything else thus far has been sweet. It cost me around AU$500 ish to bring in but it was well worth it in my opinion. I have been wiring up the gauges in the last few nights - will try and get some pics tonight (but its not that exciting at the moment!).

Wiper and headlight switches are back in place (but not yet wired up) and the little alloy retaining nuts were polished up. New ignition switch also in place (which has an accessory position).

Monster tach back into position as well and wired up - expanable nylon cable conduit was used to keep the wires tidy, and rubber grommet for wires through the body of course.

Man all those connections took bloody ages to solder, join, clamp into connectors, heatshrink and bolt in place. It will all be tidied up a little more once I get the ignition switch, wiper and headlight switches and wiper motor sorted.

No probs thus far with knee clearance - I trial fitted the seat when deciding on tach mounting location...and at the time had no concerns. This pic is going back in time a little but it shows the seat in place:

Tell me about it, in the last three days my wife and I have shovelled 13 cubic metres of soil around the front yard, then layed 230 square metres of turf, not to mention installing a full irrigation system....and to top it off managed to almost break my middle finger when it got caught between the sledge hammer handle and a star picket (don't ask). I was going to have a crack at the wiring but couldn't squeeze a pair of pliers so the vw sat idle all weekend :(

Did manage to go the show so had some vw interaction, hopefully if my finger regains some function I'll post some updates this week! :duh

I do have the cup 3's back though - still a little more "work" I have to do on them, but they will hopefully be back on soon!

I know you don't want a step by step reno update ala VW resto, but here is why the beetle is taking so damn long! Here is the backyard when we bought it:
