I don't like to show off, but am certainly proud of the work I do. I would have had the house and car finished by now if I did things
half-arsed....but these things take a long time when done properly!! :P

Maybe in a few years time! Due to the fact I haven't been surfing enough in the last couple of years we will be moving down to the gold coast in a
few months and renting this house out. Fortunately the new house doesn't need much work so I will actually have MORE TIME to work on vws! :P That
will be a nice change.
I might actually get this beast finished, and start on the 68 that blup58 is kindly storing for me at the moment. (will be much milder though - I will
update its resto because it will be for sale once completed). Stay tuned! :o

The whole kit including fuse panel is from http://www.watsons-streetworks.com - they make other kits for hotrods etc but this is specifically for the vw beetle. I am
pretty impressed thus far with it.
I layed down another coat of high build primer on the sub box today...bit more filler required to smooth out some imperfections before the base coat
colour goes on. You can see the recessed section for the vinyl insert.

I made a switch panel out of aluminium and gave it a brief polish (the camera shows the scratches a lot though!)...hazard switch off late model beetle
(anyone know how to wire this sucker up??), then three switches (one for fuel pump, one for windscreen washer, and one spare for something else if
needed down the track).

Pic is a bit blurry but you get the idea - because the original fuse box is no longer used, I thought it was a perfect spot for the switches.

Two stainless button head bolts with nylock nuts secure the panel in place.
Apart from this a little more progress to the wiring took place (albeit a little slowly with a dud finger)...more pics when it is a little tidier.

I dont think it'll be illegal considering the car originally didn't have hazard lights? or switches for those things? |

Did the 63 not come with windscreen washer? also, why do you need a switch for the fuel pump? I am actually claiming ignorance here because I know
that VW came with a mechanical fuel pump, so I assume that ou have installed an electrical fuel pump, but wasn't it wired to be operational with the
iginition switch?

Yep the 63 had windscreen washer that you had to pump the fluid with the wiper knob. I have installed a different reservoir with electric pump that
can be activated by the switch.
Yep Holley Blue electric fuel pump installed (with red regulator for lower pressure for dellortos)....I can set it up so it runs straight of the
ignition switch but prefer to run it through a switch so potentially a thief has to play around a little more before starting it....also if I have a
crash and the keys fall of the ignition out (thus can't turn pump off), I'd like to be able to turn the pump off with the switch so I don't burn to
death if it catches fire

This made me think of a question... where do you live?...nah joking... the question is regarding insurance, what agreed value are you going to set for
your masterpiece?

Don't worry, I have a few other tricks up my sleeve to deal with potential theives! Full alarm system with tracking capabilities....hydraulic
ram-activated punji stick under driver's seat activated via back to base monitoring (through tracking company) once the vehicle is moving after being
stolen....
Just kidding about the punji stick....maybe
I will be going through shannons insurance - no idea on agreed value yet though.

I bought an aftermarket 36hp style doghouse shroud - then modified it using the sharpbuilt fibreglass oil cooler extension so the type IV cooler could
fit inside. In hindsight I think I could have done a better job extending and rewelding the metal I cut off - not that happy with the fit of the f/g
cover in the kit :vader

cool i wasnt sure cause im still using the modified sbug shroud but want something a little rounder so ill most likely end up splitting mine again and
re-cut it . i cut and re-wielded mine for the oil cooler it only required an inch put in so it was easy with the oxy.

Finally got my front spacers (20mm) from the machine shop - these should put the front wheels where I want them!
Sanded back glaze filler on the sub box - should be ready for paint tomorrow or sunday. Also wiring continues (can't wait for that part to be
finished - talk about tedious!)
