Thanks guys, sounds like the paint/polish detail has worked.
Brad, the rug is more for me than the car - I got sick of laying on cold concrete all the time!!
Re. what's next? Just finishing up the fuel delivery (tank to filter to pump to main line [all braided stainless with AN fittings])....also have to
try and finish wiring.....got to get the sub in.....that will keep me busy for now.

Hehehehe....that's good
I have been covering it up with a flannelette (spelling?) sheet for winter though just so it can feel cosy! - it hates the feeling of the cold cotton
sheets in winter :P

I've been tinkering away till about 9.30-10pm every night lately to try and fast track the reassembly.....hopefully will have carpets and ragtop
installed in the next few weeks.
Last couple of nights I worked on the fuel lines up front...managed to get all the AN fittings, braided lines and filter in position.

There is enough slack to be able to lift the tank a little to disconnect the fitting that attaches to the filter in case I have to remove the tank at
some stage.

The fuel filter is attached via clip to the frame head with a stainless screw and washer. So I have a filter between tank and pump, then another
filter at the end of the main line before going to regulator. The filters are reusable fortunately as they aren't cheap :o
In the pic the fuel line looks deceptively close to the tie rod (which will be painted after I weld the steering stop on the beam which needs paint
too)....but it is just the angle of the pic.
More work tomorrow :thumb

Cheers Jim.
Bit more work on the wiring today - unfortunately my optima yellow top battery didn't arrive in time on friday so couldn't sort out the power just
yet. Nonetheless, getting close to finishing under the bonnet (except for hazard switch - still to sort that one out).
The rear apron found its way home this arvo too - feeling more and more like a complete car!

Great car, great progress.
I'm suprised you haven't used collapsible steering column out of a 1500. Just the shaft not the housing, use the original housing for period
look.
I would have thought with the mods you are doing that the engineer would require a collapsible column. I thought it was on the list of things they
check when blue plating an engine upgrade.

The wheels look great!!!!
The polished chrome on the rim highlights the chrome on the rest of the body - very smooth!
I dont know how you guys get the time to do a full resto on a vehicle, reno the house, have kids, work, quality time with the misses, time with the
boys, quality time in front on the BBQ... etc etc... and remain sane - well mabey thats the point
Hats off to ya! |

Yeah I thought of that but was concerned the splines were different therefore not allowing me to use my restored wood rim steering wheel. Do you know
if the splines of the 1500 collapsible column are the same as the early 60s shafts? If so I will have to track one down then!
Cheers VWENVY - staying sane is certainly the hard part. No kids yet so that makes it a little easier to squeeze all these things in.

Looks great... two questions Das:
- is that the break fluid reservoir? If I am not wrong the petrol tank will cover that resevoir, no? how are you going to refill it if needed?
- How are you going to drive the car out with all that gravle in it's path? you may need to do install a baja lift

Yep thats the fluid reservoir - its a gold master cylinder and although I could have modified it to work with a reservoir mounted under the bonnet it
was a neater and easier install this way. I just have to take the front wheel off to access it but being that it is seldomly (at times of service etc)
accessed, I don't think it will cause me any headaches.
Re. the gravel - Brad (buggy brad) has been at me for a while now to make it a Baja....but I think I'll stick with the current look for now :thumb

Great stuff Alan! I've been following the resto for a while here
http://www.netspot4u.com/~manxclub/gallery/album95
Very, Very nice. Up to you obviously, but I'm glad you stuck with the cup's instead of the Fuchs, look way better with the rest of the style of your
car in my opinion.
Have you got any more pics of your old '63 thats in that gallery? Is that racing stripe painted on or is it vinyl?

Thanks so much for all the kind words, I do sincerely appreciate it and documenting each and every step of the project has ensure no corners have been
cut because too many people would pick it up!! Also it helps to maintain the motivation.
Even though I am building it for my own enjoyment rather than for trophies or praise from others, it is still nice to be recognised for the hard
work.
Yep certainly is a golf m/c, not gold - I try to keep the expensive electroplating for the absolutely necessary items!
I'll try and see if I have any more pics of my old beetle on my home pc but most of them were in old school prints rather than digital! Stay tuned
though, it may potentially be making an appearance in a certain magazine some time soon (not confirmed yet though). The stripes and 76 logos were all
vinyl.
The pressure is now on to finish this thing soon as we are moving down to the gold coast (hence trying to finish the house too to rent it out).....I
don't think I'll have it all done by then (end July) but I hope to have it running and doing its first trial runs around the block.
We'll see what happens and rest assured I am sure you'll see the updates here, as well as the manx club site (thanks brad for hosting all the pics)
and other forums. I've had some interest already from the overeas mags for features already so that is promising.
Cheers
Alan

...by the way the photo just doesn't do the chrome work justice - I am very happy with it indeed.
Also picked up my D34 Optima yellow top battery today - now I can sort out the power junction to feed the fuse panel etc, and also sort out the 1/0
gauge wire for the amps.

Bumper looks really good. REALLY GOOD. especially with the custom exhuast learking underneath. Did you chase up some new bumpers or are they
re-chromed one?
What are new ones worth and whats chroming worth these days. I will require new ones for mine as they are a little to rough to rechrome (dinted in
places).
Cheers bud. Nice work as always. :thumb

Hi Al, I really dont need to say anything about this, cause Im sure everyone feels the same when I say DANMMMMMM that is great work.....
Blue, you should rechrome your old bumpers, they will come out a lot better than new ones. Dints and bends can be repaired by the chromer.
