That is not a torque curve, it is a force at the surface of the roller. That is why it is in lbs.
I will calculate a torque curve...

121.5HP @ 6000rpm equates to 106 ft.lbs of torque.
The peak torque is usually produced lower in the rev range than the peak power so peak torque will be more than 106ft.lbs, my guess is prob close to
120ft.lbs.
|
Well my guess was good. That HP graph translates to a peak torque of almost 118ft.lbfs @ approx 4900rpm.
Anyway, here is the HP and torque curve, plotted against all the other dyno sheets people have provided recently. Troy's engine has more torque
everywhere, but doesn't rev as well as Craig's or Greg's cars.

excellent graph Wes, would be interesting to see what mine would put out with more than 9.0:1 compression, maybe 10.8:1 is on the cards then:thumb
will be interesting to see what Craig & Greg get after a dyno tune at CBB

That's the thing with shoot-out mode. It will compensate for the temperature. So really it shouldn't make any more power on a cooler day,
because the temp has already been accounted for. You can see on the bottom of the graph it recorded the room temp and relative humidity and tried to
compensate for that. Whether it compensates correctly for an air-cooled VW is another matter entirely.

I have remade the graphs to suit Greg's latest 111.7HP dyno read out.
The first attachment is Greg's current graph against his old graph. You can see it on his dyno plot that shows the air fuel ratio, that there is
a rich spot in the rev range at ~4350rpm. This corresponds to a dip in the power curve at the same point, obviously hurting HP. You can see just how
much it is hurting from the comparison of his old and new HP curves. There is definitely some more midrange to be gained with correct jetting.
The next one is all 4 VW engines against each other, but with Gregs latest chart instead of his old one.
Troy's engine is weird. It has more torque everywhere. Either it has higher compression than the other engines, bigger capacity, or a more
efficient gearbox. A more efficient gear could be due to different helix angle gears, or just a gearbox and CV's in better condition (and
CV's running less angle), could even be due to better gearbox oil (thinner with less friction?)

While we're on the topic of 1916's
In 1990 (I think) I purchased a 1916 from Stan. In '93 or '94 it snapped the head off a valve at 100kms on the freeway. One head, one barrel
and piston immediately shagged, and then after teardown I sent the case for a soak and the nice gentlemen left it in the acid bath too long. Case was
stuffed. Rebuild was getting too expensive compared to replacement stocker to get on the road again. The beetle is long gone but I still have the
remainder of the 1916 parts. I can't remember the cam grind, I'd have to drag out some old paperwork. Do you 1916 gurus reckon it's
worth rebuilding, or have too many advances been made in "1916 technology" in that time? Where would I buy one barrel and one piston from
anyway? I also found the cam a bit of a dog on hot days - wouldn't idle. Used to sound great, but!!!!!!

Yeah but is the same thing going to happen? (rhetorical question)
Does Stan use different valve stems now?
Has he moved on from the cam grinds of that era? I spose I should ring him, but I'm only just thinking about this now...don't really have
time to ring during the day....maybe I'd better make some time..

my fathers new beetle in 68 dropped a valve after 1 week, it could happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime, regardless of who built it.
Do a rebuild & get another hot vw on the streets!

can't wait to see my dyno. pretty much the same as troy's but only a few months old probably won't make a lot of difference, knowing how well stan's motor's retain HP. when I get it, can I
have a snot green curve to match my sleeper, Wes?

Lucky u reposted the graph Craig, some of us almost forgot. U should have reminded us more often.
Its an awesome result Craig, I doubt very much anyone would try to take it away from Stan & his engine building skills. Maybe in another 20 years
when I have built more than 6 engines I can get a result similar.
See u on Saturday

Rudy Frank (silver race bug) managed a 126.6hp from his 1916cc pobjoy spec last Friday
|
I thought Rudy built his own engine?
The combination had been changed again since his last dyno session?
And from what I heard we should expect even more out of his current engine with some more sorting! Can't wait to see that!
I think a day at the roundy-roundies might be coming up...
