Well dug around the trusty Hot VW's .....you know, you think .....I've read about that in an article.....now when was it? Well Dec 07, Mike Lawless
writes that above 8000 rpm when you start to have oiling issues.....fit the -10 drain back tubes to the deep sump...

Crossing over and then coming back
Hi Reub,
I am going to have to ask you a question and I dont think many others can answer this. The reason the question comes up is due to me speaking with
someone the other night at WSID and he was telling me all about his STIDUB (hint, hint). Dave even had me wanting to go out and buy a rex motor
Now for the question (sort of), if you can answer it yet. Most people go over to the dark side as they say and fit a WRX motor. Well, now you have
been on the dark side for quite some time, whats it like coming back over to your original maker - VW. Are you enjoying the VW engine experience.
And you will have to let us know how the driving experience feels when the time comes and you fire her up.
Thanks, Kevin

My first registered beetle was my VWRX. I'd bought an unregistered old 68 beetle a while back, with plans to build a supercharged aircooled, but I
wanted to go retrotech (past and present in the same car). At that time there were bugger all WRX powered beetles around, and I really wanted to build
something all out. Not having a VW history I was not really influenced by any one style of modifying veedubs, hence the way VWRX turned out. Parts of
the original 68 beetle form part of VWRX too.
I love things that are out of the normal, having a big love for hotrods and the like. There has always been something cool about making a volksie go
like it shouldn't. Putting a WRX engine in the back was a logical way to keep a flat 4 but introduce the late model efficiency and reliability.
Retrotech cars are cool in my book.
I also have an affection for the humble aircooled engine too. Sure they are really old technology, and cost an absolute forturne to produce really
good power, but a hypo aircooled is again, really cool. Taking and old engine and making it produce 3+ times what it did from the factory and then
amazing people on the strip etc is a buzz. Making a 300kw HSV worried down the 1/4 makes me smile everytime I think about it. Ask Peter Page what got
him into Volksies. Cruising in a worked torana and then being left by a tricked up aircooled powered beetle is priceless.
I'm neither for or against either means of motivation in a beetle (infact I'd love a 20b in one). The boosted growl of a rexy is totally different
to the sound of a naturally aspirated 8000rpm aircooled screamer, and I'd suggest so is the driving experience. I think I know which one I'd rather
for the daily drive, but that would only be my preference. I will say that I'm over stuffing around with 44idf webers, hence the efi setup being
installed on this incarnation of the 1915...
Modified or not, re-engined or not, we're all here as we love volksies

Reub,
Having just read your reply to my question, I was not intending to label you at all or offend you so I am sorry if I have. With regards to crossing
over to the dark side, I believe this to just be an expression used by others to describe when people get rid of their VW engine for another brand.
And I did not know how your first car was built or what it started from.
I would love to have a WRX motor in my car (ask Mick058) it just that I dont have that kind of money to complete such a project.
And I full heartily agree with your comment - "Modified or not, re-engined or not, we're all here as we love volksies".
So again, I appologise if I offended you in any way.
Regards, Kevin

Lookin awesome Reub !!!
Can't wait to see the startup vid... hint hint...
Couple of questions... mainly since I've got the same TB's going on a very similar combo... how have you done the TPS or are you going MAP only, and
what made you decide to have the throttle cranks on the firewall side of the TB's ???

Hi Reubs,
I like your set up, looks neat with the throttle cracks on the far side, Black fuel fittings and the top mounted thermo fan. Just woundering
if you have, or thinking about a WOT spring so if the thottle is wide open, and the pedel has still a little more to go, your thottle leaver
doesn't pull the fuel rail forward giving bad inj seal.
You're a smart man you probably have it sorted already.

The cooling system has had me thinking for a while as to whether it would make it easier to fit a supercharger and intercooler in the engine bay
without having to have stand offs. One problem would probably be drawing air off the manifold and intercooler.
