Thats very interesting then, i wire wheel all the rust out of my luggage area and took those tabs out (still have them in sorted bags though). Should
i put them back in Joel? or does it not matter? it will be covered with Dynamat...if that matters at all.

I'd put them back in, its to keep moisture out.
You don;t want moisture trapped there otherwise it ends up like snitzs car did.

Whats the most appropraite way to seal them back it, my tabs are all clean and that, will a bead of silicon and then KBS over the top do the job? Or
is there a method to the madness?

Not much progress at the moment just re-wiring the engine bay and under the dash. Currently Im cleaning every wire behind the dash with thinners to
remove overspray and then re-route the wiring for a neater look under the hood. Too boring for photos trust me!. If I grab the camera for pics during the re-wire I might just forget which wire is which .
On another note I have been told by the engine builder that the engine should be finished in the next week or so. So i need to finish the wiring
sometime this week before the car goes off to recieve the new motor..cheers Snitz..

Well the front hood area has finally been sorted out and the wiring has been cleaned up. Powdercoated inspection plates put back on and compliance/adr
plate pop-riveted back on. Headlight looms were re-done, the looms now run with the main power loom for a neater look. Only thing really left is to
finish off the fuel filler and earth the fuel sender properly.
Once finished then i need to attack the engine compartment and re-route the taillight looms and then its just waiting for the engine..yay!!!

Thanks thebullfrog..for the comments..the fitted carpet is only sitting on the tank and will be used to protect the paintwork and powdercoat on the
tank while carrying gear in the front. The wiring for the headlight looms was redone from scratch using factory wire colours..then covered in either
heat-shrink or conduit..regards jason

Good idea, that tank needs to be shown off! =) That wiring would have been fun then....is that all the engine wiring included. I went the option to
get a 1970 LHD kit from Cip1 and i shall madify the lengths of what needs to be changed (hopefully not too much). I shall definately be using plenty
of heatshrink!

really need the body off the pan so i can get the body soda blasted and move forwards with everything.

No more pics to put up yet..Motor was together by engine builder but it has been pulled down and re-machined as the overall static compression was too
low to work with the camshaft and heads.I spoke to the builder and the case etc has been washed again after the machine work and will be back together
and running by this weekend.
The bonnet that I had painted turned out a cream colour instead of Antarctica White...the spray painter is repainting it for free of course!.(It was
only colour-matched off the fuel filler cap).Due to previous repairs etc some parts of the car have been resprayed in 2pak with varying colours
between the repairs, so the painter needs to get the Spies Hecker Rep to come in and use their machine to get a computer matched colour to the rest of
the car so the colour matches better than it does..

Hope you've been enjoying your holiday Seb...Nothing goes smoothly when it comes to cars..Heres some pics of the bonnet. Ideally he should have asked
for the car to do a proper match than rely on the fuel filler cap alone..as you can see it has more black in the colour. Even when I mocked up the
emblem and the chrome strip to try and break the colour up, it still stands out like dog balls...

Yeah, been enjoying the holiday quite a bit, but looking forward to getting home and getting stuck back into Zelda!
You're right, it does stick out like a mofo. Looks like the difference between my rear fenders and my body. Damn body is cream where the rear fenders
are white as white can be...
Might cut and polish Zelda and see if it is less noticeable.
Seems most beetle's, besides ones that have been completely resprayed, all have mismatched colour parts.
Might get a couple of mates around and spray Zelda myself. Then at least she'll be the right colour on the outside, and cream on the inside
But damn she is looking good man, can't wait to see this engine in!

UPDATE..Well the front hood area is all finished now with earth wire for the fuel sender..the tank isn't bolted in properly nor the fuel filler in
because the tank will come out for the new electric pump while the cars getting the motor put in..
Engine builder is ready for the car but now the paint shop is ready to spectro the paint on the front guards to get an exact match to repaint the
bonnet..So Im in a mad rush to re-wire the tail-lights and engine compartment before is goes off to the painters tommorrow.heres the progress..
So everything going to plan the car should be up at Peter Debiasis by the end of the week...YAY!!

Damn that is a really clean looking engine bay.
You might see Zelda at Peter's then (if you're going up with the car that is), or is he coming to pick it up himself?
Can't wait to see what happens when everything is back home and the engine is in.
Get excited!

I trailer the car to St. Peters where a friend of Peters lives and he tows it on his Ford flat bed from there. Given that he works from home I dont
think he wants everyone to frequent his house all the time..did you trailer your car up there or did he pick it up?.

Car back from the painters..Bonnet has been fitted up, New trim and Emblem clips and Hood handle seal fitted. The original german chrome trim had pin
dents so I had to tap the dents out/file finish and hand polish. Im half way through the engine bay wiring so hopefully Monday or Tuesday it goes off
for the 1916 thats waiting for it..

Thanks.nothing will be better than seeing my wife drive it again for the first time.Being her first car and only driving it once in the last..well now
8 years and seeing it the way she has always wanted it. My projects can wait. Sometimes its more rewarding seeing other people happy first..
I wanted to document the build/ freshen up a fair bit as I didnt do this with previous cars that I owned and I now regret not doing that. Theres alot
more to do to it but atleast when its driving the interior can be done whilst the car is on the road and not have to be trailered everywhere. Its been
a satisfying buiild so far with parts available at good prices and great forum members who have helped me out along the way..

All tail-light wiring and rear licence plate wiring now finished/ hidden and running into the cabin now. The earth wires for each tail-light and rear
licence plate all terminate inside the car and are earthed inside the cabin..
Licence plate wiring is routed back in the car using Cabac fibreglass sheathing, also using heatshrink and water-proof connectors..
All wiring now runs under the seat such as the engine bay loom, tail light loom and licence plate loom.
The left over loom is for the coil,genny/alternator wiring and the main power wiring tot he alternator. These have been left for Peter Debiasi to get
the car running. Once the car comes home and is running I will modify and hide the loom..A bit hard to do with no motor.
So thats it!..its all ready for the motor now. Which I will organise in the next day or so to get it up to Peter..Cheers Jason.

Well the beastie is home and running..The wife is stoked with the way it turned out and so am I..Only thing left engine wise is to neaten up
alternator wiring and get some Topgun custom leads made to length for the Compufire set-up..and in RED as the Compufire kits dont have the option of
red leads. Sounds tough with the cam, straight cut gears and Empi carbs...Very happy..Cheers Jason.

How does it feel when you put your foot down?
Also, just quickly, is that a SCAT serpentine belt pulley system?
Once again, looks awesome!

Thanks Seb..Only drove it from the road into the shed as the car has no rego..was tempted to run the gauntlet but contained myself..The pedal feels so
crisp and the engine so revvy..Peter Debiasi fryed the tyres putting it on my trailer..lol. Shes definately a little demon..i think the Compufire
system makes it responsive, smooth and revvy..have to wait till shes done about 500miles before I sink the foot in too much.
And yes the serpentine set up is a Scat one..All in all happy with the set-up.
