Been following this here (well not quite all of it!) and on the samba. Great work, you'll be finding excuses to take a day off work soon, to get it
closer to finished!

Ran out of sick days, annual leave is pretty slim too - so have to do it all legit unfortunately :o
Nothing exciting today - managed to sort out the oil pressure senders (stock for idiot light and sender for autometer gauge). Needed to get the two
female ends of the brass t-piece tapped for the NPT threads of senders, will fix it in position to support the weight next to the fan shroud.
Thats it for now.

Alan-why have you got the hose fitting on there? Are you remote mounting it? I couldn't get a T piece onto mine with my fan shroud-not enough room-so
I tapped a 1/8 NPT into the main supply gallery between the oil filter and the cooler.I will have the idiot sender there, oil temp sender and 02 sensor
all underneath out of sight when the lid is open. I polished the Bosch guage sender and laquered it,so it will go into the original sender
location.Have you fired up your motor yet since it was rebuilt?

Motor hasn't been fired up just yet - hopefully not this weekend but the next if all goes to plan.
I have remote mounted them using the extension line (stainless braided hose) from aircooled.net which is a 12in long hose with male end to screw in
the block and female end which the t-piece screws into. This is all tucked just behind the shroud close to #3 spark plug so it is all hidden as well.

I remote mounted my oil sender and idiot light fittings under the passenger side fender next to the remote oil filter (full flow system) to keep it
all out of sight. Then I put a plug in the original oil idiot light hole. Less fittings and wires in the engine bay...nn[ Edited on 20-7-2005 by063bug ]

Here is how the senders were fitted - all wired up now so one step closer to fire up.
Also another couple pics of the wiring under the rear seat - finally the wiring is almost done.

Now the senders and wiring have been sorted, I can re-bolt the carbs once again (man I hate those hard to get manifold nuts). The spark leads are
Aurora super mag plus from aircooled.net (8.5mm silicon core which are recommended with the mallory unilite and promaster coil).
The dizzy to coil lead was too short so luckily I ordered an extra which I am having shortened at the moment by Qld Ignition Leads. Hopefully will
pick it up this weekend. Also will hook up front brake lines and bleed the system (getting excited).
I will try and organise some sound and video files (hopefully of the engine firing and not me going "FU*K, FU*K - SOMEONE GET THE FIRE
EXTINGUISHER!!"
:P

I can't remember the specs off hand but it was only slightly lumpier than stock. In hindsight I wish I had gone a little more agressive but I was
being a bit conservative at the time. Ivan Tighe cams reground it - sorry I can't recall the details.

When I fit my manifolds-the 2 centre nuts are a bit of a pain- was thinking I might make some new nuts from some 12mm hex bar,but make them 50mm
long-should be able to get them with a small ratchet then. Will see if it becomes an issue by how many times they need to be removed and replaced.Bet
the butterflies in the gut will be starting soon.Doesn't look like you will have too much trouble-everything seems to have been done 110%.Good luck
on the first firing.

Thanks Alan and Gary once again....
yeah will be a bit nervous on first fire up (I had a dream last night that it fired first go so I hope it comes true - although I was told once that
dreams you remember never come true)....getting a bit spiritual here!
I found the two centre manifold nuts are okay to get at from the bottom (lying underneath) however it is the ones closest to the firewall that really
suck!

The lead separators were just from autobarn...bout twenty something bucks. There are heaps in the pack (2xtwo holes, 2x3 holes, 2x4 holes - something
like that).
Anyway, fiddled around and got the linkage sorted tonight - bolted the carbs back on - tomorrow will get a fan belt and finish breather line and vac
line for dizzy.
Still have to figure out why the oil pressure idiot light and alternator light aren't working (should be something simple again but trying to tie in
stock gauges with the new wiring kit is a little tricky (for someone with no auto-elec knowledge!). Also have to hook up brakes and bleed them this
weekend so hopefully next sunday (if all goes plan) it can be fired up.

Thanks for the kind offers but I think I want to be sure everything works and runs before any celebrations can be had - if something goes wrong I will
not be a pleasant man to be around!
Managed to sort out my spindle problem, also had a fairly productive day on a few niggly jobs that I'd been meaning to do (align doors and striker
plates - now both door close properly!.....also realign bonnet catch....as well as bleed brakes so now it can finally stop [once it gets going]).
First shot is just arty farty....and second pic shows the ramps I have to use to get the jack under the front end. The rear is way too high now but I
will readjust after getting it driving in case it settles a little further.

Turns out for whatever reason the speedo cable hole was present and visible from the outside but it just wasn't machined all the way through to the
inside. I did not pick this up before because there was no hole on the inside (where I was trying to find the cabl hole), but there was on the outside
(I didn't see it because I had the centre cap on [stupid I know for not checking]). I took the spindle off and had someone my old man knows finish
the drilling/machining in a jig (was no dramas). Crisis over.
