I didn't spend anywhere near as much time and money on the last one so the attachment to it wasn't quite as extensive!

too all the folks doing glassing you might want to look at boat shops ( I went to anchor marine) for resin etc as they sell the stuff pretty cheep I could be wrong but I am pretty sure I paid $25 for 2l of polyester resin with hardener.

Yeah I think from memory it was a bit cheaper than I first noted - been a while since I bought the last lot.

Anyway, I decided to dabble in a bit more fibreglassing and create some eye lids....just for something different. Here is the process - took about a week of work (about an hour after work each day) to make them.

Step 1 - protect paint! (used clear contact over everything)
Step 2 - mask up again to prevent seap through of resin to paint etc.
Step 3 - more masking just to be sure, but also different colour tape helps outline the desired shape

Step 4 - lay first two layers of glass, let it cure
Step 5 - over subsequent days, laid another 4 layers of glass (2 at a time)
Step 6 - let it cure then sand to knock high spots off, then apply filler, sand, filler, sand etc

Once is smooth, hit it with high build primer, sand again (fine grit) then base coat/clear coat - not that hard.

Like them or hate them, they're something a little different so for that reason they will probably stay. Double sided body trim tape will hold them in place.

Thats it for now - hopefully the engineer will certify it next friday. Not much happenning on it till then (getting ready to move to the gold coast - gotta hate packing) :o

Those eyelids look fantastic! The only thing I would do personally would be to trim them back so as the chrome headlight rim still shows through

Didn't get a chance to take any pics today - madly packing for the move next week.

Also trouble shooting the car's first break down! Took it around the block yesterday after some more tuning (changed idle jets from a 60 to 55 which almost cured the flat spot - maybe some adjustment to accel pump will sort the rest out).....anyway, the car decided to die a couple of streets away without notice. Thought it ran out of fuel so ran home got a lift back and refilled...no luck. So rolled it home (luckily mostly downhill with just a bit of pushing involved!)....this morning I swapped the promaster coil over with a new one my mate had waiting to go onto his 2110 - problem solved.

The coil $hit itself for some unknown reason. With the setup no ballast resistor was required, all wiring is fine, no shorts...will figure it out I guess. Hopefully I'll know a bit more in the next few days. Ah well, new car blues - it was to be expected. :dork:

This has to be my favourite post. I sat down a read the whole thing the other week. (took about 3 days in between work) and I'm hanging out for each new installment from you Dass.

Inspiring. Gives me hope that I'll be able to fix up my beastie as good as yours... well lets faces it, even half as good would still be pretty decent.

Love the eyelids.

Well the car finally hit hit the roads today. Got the nod of approval from the automotive engineer for the modifications, as well as road worthy certificate. Big thanks to Terry and Dave from Custom Offroad for their assistance with some last minute alterations - cheers gents! Dashed out to the dept of transport to get it registered but stupid me only had the "client copy" of the CTP insurance document and not the original - so all the rushing to no avail. Nonetheless hopefully I will take next friday off work and come back up to brissy to finalise that.

I have a new amp that will power the sub and splits - so the underbonnet area will go through a redesign over coming months (have to finish the house move first). So stay tuned (probably not many updates for the next couple of weeks though).
