Finished everythng in the engine bay(except for chucking away the Webers and fitting the injection)It runs like a bag of shit when cold-but comes to
life when it's been running for a couple of minutes.I have tried everything I can think of to make it run smooth when I start it.Been out in the lane
along side of my place-Geezus it feels like a rocket.I will have to get used to the auto-with the modified convertor,it seems to be sluggish when I
pull away-then it seems to take up and all hell breaks loose. Will get on top of it once I can drive it on the street.

Made this to go over the hole to clear the front of the auto. Will use some Nutserts to hold it in place. Will need to tidy up the welds a bit.Can cut
and shut the seats now to clear this panel.

Yes-I registered it for 3 months back in February to make sure everything would be OK.Just need to redo it when I have it finished.I have all my old
cars on "seasonal rego"-which means if they are expired for more than 90 days-don't have to go thru all the bullshit and pay a reinstatement
fee.Oh,and cheese is not healthy according to my wife-but I still love it.

A bit of progress-finished all the carpet-ended up doing it all myself.Cut everything out then had it edged same as done for house carpet squares-used
a black thread with a siver fleck-turned out really good.A big help was getting some spray glue from a trimmer and used an old spare spray gun I
had-saved heaps of time and made the job real easy. Finally decided on how I am doing the belt line seals for the 1 piece windows.Tried heaps of
different shape rubbers-settled on using original outer rubbers.Drilled out the rivets from the new kits and used both side rubbers on the 1 door-just
glued them straight to the door.So used the LH one on the front part of the right door-cut the length to fit, turned around and joined them with some O
ring glue.Have ordered another complete set to do the other door.Just used what came with the kit for the inner scraper.Made up a stainless piece for
the outer door edge. These used to available in the early days for an armrest when we were allowed to drive with an arm out the window.Needed a bit
more shiny now the original stainless mouldings can't be used.Made up front and rear parcel trays from MDF and trimmed for somewhere to mount the
speakers.A while back I stripped out all the original seats and borrowed a glass bead cabinet and did all the frames, then painted everything in satin
black.Thay have been in Adelaide for a while now getting the black leather treatment. He is pretty slow but does the best work-will be ready mid
November.

Progressing with injection-pulled out all the fuel lines for the Webers and had to make new throttle rods. They supplied some extruded aluminium for
the fuel rails, but I cannot find anything to screw into the ends for the barbed fittings to screw into.Had to machine up some aluminium plugs to fit
tight in the holes and weld them in.Got one side done-beautiful-even drilled and threaded one end so I can screw in a guage if I need to check fuel
pressure.Buggered up the other one-tried to weld on some 10mm flat for the pressure regulator to screw into. Will cut it off and try again.Drilled and
threaded one T/B below the butterfly for the air temp sensor to screw into(9/16 UNF)Have got to find a place for the water temp sensor yet. Will be
using this dizzy-it's from a 244 Volvo and I've machined it down and fitted the VW drive tang-takes the same cap as a 009,even looks like one.May go
with a crank angle sensor down the track.

still fitting stuff for the injection-took a break and started fiting the seats.Had to put the fronts back together and fit the hold back rubber for
the rear seat.Had to modify the rear parcel tray/speaker panel. The spots on the seats are the perforations in the leather-must have been caught by the
flash.

Was planning on having the motor going with the injection on today-best laid plans????? The engine bay is all finished though-everything where it's
meant to be.Have mounted the ECU under the back seat, but want the relay's to be tidy,so will get 3 of those plastic terminal holders tomorrow and
then the relay's just plug into them.Having some trouble trying to find air cleaners for the T/Bodies.Injection Perfection reckon they used to sell
them, but are unable to do so anymore.Pisses me off that they can sell the T/B's,but can't supply a fairly important part of the system. They claim
that the T/B's are a direct replacement for the Webers and the cleaners should fit-but they go nowhere near fitting.May have to make some top and
bottom plates from aluminium that take a common filter.

I can't believe how long this car has taken to get to this stage.Have been fairly short on time to devote to it lately-but progressing with the
injection.Trying to get everything close to set up the ECU has been a bit of a headache.Started of with 20.5 lbs/hr injectors and almost no manifold
vacuum for the MAP-so couldn't get it lean enough to be any good.I made a small ally manifold and threaded it for the 4 vacuum hoses and one outlet
for the MAP and fuel reg.I fitted 4 one way check valves and now have a good/constant vacuum reading at idle.I will mount it under the car out of
sight if it all works OK and just run the 4 small hoses out of the engine bay to it.I also changed the injectors to 18.25 lbs/hr and it runs really
good thru the whole range and now idles and starts good.I am taking it tomorrow to have the ECU rechipped-so hoping it all goes OK.If he can't get it
right,I will then get a Haltec and a laptop and have a go at it myself.Made some new air filter bases from some 6mm ally and used my original Weber
filters and tops.I had to offset the bases 4mm so they would clear the fuel rails.

No return lines? I was oing to do it this way but warned off it. It is meant to be great if you are constantly on it but a bit of a pig just idling
around. Also the fuel gets hot. Let me know how you go.

There isn't too much about this project that I will ever forget. It's been a full on learning experience.I can now TIG weld aluminium and
stainless,do some basic machining on a lathe, basic machining on a milling machine, made all the carpets and door trims and helped with the final
headlining to go in and did about 90% of all the mechanicals, all of the elecrical and body assembly.Bonus is that I now have some good machinery that
I may have never thought of buying(good lathe, milling machine,TIG welder,MIG welder and a 2 post car hoist) I don't think I would ever do one again
with the detail I have put into this one.Might be a different story 12 months down the track. The auto was never a problem-have only driven it once-but
it worked OK-did everything it is supposed to do.Still having issues with the injection-trying to get the fuel maps right thru the whole rev
range.Have tried 2 different ECU's,Haltech and Kalmaker-runs best on the Kalmaker

Have you thought about a single throttle body
I think you will find a big difference
We had quads on the drag car and could never get the tune right too many mechanical variations
How come you have only driven it once ???

I am finally driving it and it's awesome.Pissed around with the Delco(Kalmaker) for 2 days with no joy,so bought a Haltec and spent 8 hours with that
and still no go.Just managed to burn out Auto starters like there was no tomorrow. They are a bit weak in design-the front bush is only 9mm wide and
fairly thin and I managed to flog out 3 different starters during this ordeal.I ordered a High Torque starter from CIP1 in the US and it arrived in 6
days(unreal service from these people each time I use them).I had to modify the shock tower bar I made because it was too close to the main
terminal. All fitted and it's all good now.Any how I gave up(My knowledge of how this is done is now a big 0)and took the car to Adeaide to a Haltec
agent. He had it for a week and got it running like a dream.I learnt a valuable lesson here-save the heartache right from the start and use an
expert. The injectors are on their limit, but the motor makes no more power after 6200 because of the crappy muffler and really mild cam,so they will be
fine.I have since changed the exhaust to a set of extractors I made some years back and managed to squeeze a muffler behind the drivers rear
wheel-it's a little loud at idle but sweet when pushed.I will have to run the motor in a bit,but does it get up and go and the auto is awesome-gear
shifts are really tight.Just have a few finishing touches to do- front and rear wheel alignments, fit some inertia reel belts, finish fitting the
seats, get some whitewalls done and have it booked in end of October to get any paint blemishes fixed from the respray.

Good to hear the auto is working well, I really wanted to know it could handle to extra power. Did you have any trouble getting a good manifold vacuum
signal for the modulator valve?
Quote of the week
"Do I wish to send them to you again, nope, no interest can't be bothered really, to much hassle for little or no return."

yes and no-had no signal of any value at first-so fitted 4 plastic elbows(4mm) to each manifold, threaded one end on each, screwed in a small plastic
screw to each one and cut it off flush. Then drilled each one with a 20thou hole and connected them all to a T piece and then to the modulator and the
fuel pressure reg.Have a good stable 12 to 14 at idle and it's all working OK.

Am going to try this for an extra oil cooler.Machined the ally mounting bracket to take a Type4 cooler and OG seals.I have a sandwich plate with
thermostat to go under the filter and this will mount on the LH side on the Bus rear traction bar I have fitted.Hoses will only be 400mm long.I have a
heater assist fan from a Bus-I have cut one outlet off and blocked it and will mount it up under the LH side alongside the trans. Will mount it on the
rear shock tower brace.Made an ally cover to go over the oil cooler with a snorkle the same size as the fan,and use some flexi hose to join them. The
fan will be switched from the Haltec ECU.

NBT, why didn't you hook up both the outlets from the fan to the cooler?
That setup won't be too effective as the air is only going to pass through the bottom half of the cooler if you know what I mean.
The Oval is looking good by the way.
Cheers

With the other outlet still there-it is just too big to fit in there.I hooked it up to a battery on the bench with the hose in place-don't think
there will be any trouble with it working-there is a massive amount of air passing thru the cooler.
