Brad is that devil on my shoulder! Some examples....
"so you you're not going to run the type IV at warwick?.....didn't realise that you were a lady-boy"
"you should really put a line lock on....that would be fun yeah?"
"you do realise that your type IV is only 1971cc - you know what they say about men with sub 2L engines right?"
"I think your wife could do a better burnout than you - better prove me wrong..........now....I'm not kidding"
"so when you sell the blue bug, are you going to order the turbo, fuel injection and 103mm nikasil coated cylinders?"
hehehe....nothing like a bit of peer pressure! (as you know 063bug!)

I will have to wait until it is finished to give an accurate price after I tally up the costs - if I get my money back for parts and materials I will
be happy....if I added up all the labour it would be uneconomical for anyone to purchase (hence why I couldn't do this as a business). Hopefully by
the end of september (after warwick drag meet is over) I will be able to advertise an accurate price.
Cheers

Bit more progress today - new steering wheel and hub is on. Last tie rod end which I was waiting for is now on and bonnet and decklid seals are on as
well. Still haven't got a battery just yet to check electricals but probably will do so next week. With Dave's pressure plate adaptor ring I will
hopefully get the type IV in there soon too!

Cheers Alan - I'm sure someone will be happy with the car when its done!
I've been trying to plug away to get things done so it will be ready for Warwick - still lots to do but I'm slowly getting through the "to do"
list.
One of the headlights are in and working (other one to come soon)....decklid is on but need to sort out adjustment as it obviously sits too low at the
moment.

New Bosch 12V battery is in - looks small but 305CCA should be more than enough to turn over all but the highest compression VW engines! 1/0 gauge
custom ground cable ensures adequate earth, and 4 gauge power wire feeds a distribution block under rear seat (where old regulator used to be) to
distribute power accordingly.
Next tasks (when time permits) include painting a few bits like semaphore outer shell, decklid licence light cover, tail light housings etc......then
an engine bay firewall cover in aluminium....then type IV in....and miscellaneous other tasks in between!
With regards to the brakes, does anyone have the hard steel pipes which go from the reservoir to the master cylinder (connected by the blue rubber
hose which I have)? I don't have the pipes but would like to bleed the brakes soon! Cheers
Alan

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the new vw in the dasdubber collection. This one will have to wait a while for any resto so I'll keep it under wraps so no
pestering will cause me to divulge!
First the 70 bug has to be finished and sold, then a carport is next before I start anything else! Then I'll have to determine if its the splitty,
the notch or the "other" vw....depending of course on how well "Pacific Hearing" is going at Helensvale (Westfield Shopping Centre) - plug plug.
If business is slow for a while, restos will have to wait! :P

Managed to shoot the primer, base coat and clear coat on miscellaneous bits and pieces that required paint...turned out pretty well.
Hopefully tomorrow I will install the new fuel line (decided 8mm would be better than the stock small diameter pipe)...and a few other things to get
the type IV ready for installation!

The dog is just on a "natural high"!
The colour is a BMW colour called Mauritius Blue - has some metallic and pearl in it....pretty nice and a little tricky to spray (not as hard as the
custom colour of my old ragtop though).
By the way malcolm, your project is looking awesome - stick with it mate, these are the hard yards your slogging through right now!

Quite possibly staggers although the roofrack is my old one made by Harding European years ago....and the paint has been resprayed some time ago
(doubt it is an original colour). I have some plans for it but it will have to wait patiently for a while!

Today I managed to run the new fuel line under the pan. Before you worry about copper fuel line fatiguing.....don't worry - it is steel line with a
copper coating to help avoid rust. It is 8mm so will flow a little better in case the new owner wants to put a big engine in there one day.
Hopefully will get some more done tomorrow (in fact I have no choice - I have to get this thing wrapped up soon as Warwick is fast approaching!).

Alan-don't muck around with the hard lines from the resevoir-get some black plastic brake pipe from your Brake place-is a nice tight fit into the
blue hose and is easier to fit up.I just cut a small piece of fuel hose for each one-slit it lengthways and slipped it over the plastic where it sat
against the frame head-will never rub thru.

Had a fairly productive day today - thanks to Brad for lending a hand...made life a lot easier!
After making a cardboard template, I cut out the aluminium firewall cover - I made it two piece to make it a lot easier to install and remove if
necessary. First pic shows the Holley regulator in place, however it had to be relocated further to the left as the oil cooler housing fouled it when
engine was installed.
The type IV was slotted in place after some struggling - thanks again to dangerous for the pressure plate adaptor! Obviously the DTM shroud is painted
in the old ragtop green colour....since the engine is only in for the warwick meet I didn't bother repainting it.
Tomorrow hopefully carbs will go back on and all other engine ancillaries. We'll see how time goes - at least the days are getting longer!

I'll be in Palm Beach taking a look at my Godfathers' new trike on the weekend, I might drive by and see if I can get a sneak peak on the way
past!!
Very nice job with the fuel line. Just wondering though, is it safe under the pan like that? I guess it would be as it's only, what 10 mm OD?
Just a technical question, have you put larger fuel lines through the tunnel before, and if so how hard is it?
