You can save video from YouTube just go here:

YouTube is free and easy to search. Photobucket people cannot search. YouTube is also easier to use.

Gone racing............
I took the junka out to Heatcote on Sunday.
It was very windy and I'm not a geek but a VW with no wing in the top end is crazy so I was restricted to just sort the rear end out.
But the meet was cancelled early after the Jap dude in the Jet car crashed.
Wow, It made us all feel sick and stunned.
I don't think I'll be getting back to the track in a hurry.
I got it all on video and it's not like a crash, it's more like the car disappeared and a bomb went.
It hurts when it's so close to home.

It is always a shock to see a life taken.
Trauma takes a piece of your heart away, and makes you a different person.
But it can make you stronger.
Let time take its course Nick.

Lucky there was bugger people around though, and that it was towards the end of the track.

Hi Wayne,
It was good to catch up again, and see that nothings changed, you too still work crazy hours.
Good effort to get the car there and it's looking good.
After we had the chat about roll cages and then I saw the jet car dude, maybe with that power you should cage the bug. No wing at 130-135mph is crazy
in a bug the way they flip over.
See you soon.

That is a very cool car Nick.
What is the latest with the other rockets in the stable.
Perhaps you could start a new post about you own cars from the past,
and some you have done for your customers.
I am particularly interested in the blue car from the old days.

Thanks Dave,
I thought you would like it cause it's white.....lol
I don't think that too many people care about the old days, plus I would really have to do some looking for those pics(pre digital)
There is not much left of that car, I got carried away trying to improve it, It has a full chassis, 32'' ladder bars, wing, glass doors, glass front,
plexi windows, alloy motor plates............... get the idea, carried away!
one day................
The black and blue pro streeter is waiting for a new gearbox. I had a bad miss in it which was traced back to the crank angle. It was making the
computer think it was at max duty so opening the injectors wide open. This got worse after I put the bigger injectors in (obviously)
The crank angle is one of the first things I changed trying to find the problem, but the one I used was shitty too so it lead me on a wild goose
chase. I have inboard footage of it going 11.06 @ 127 but it's missing ,I'm short shifting and pedaling it, not worth viewing.

Who estimated the power figure on that one?
I'm thinking about 170-180rwhp max no nos, and about 220-240 with nos. No intercooler and a 45mm side draft are pretty big limitations. I've used
the same T3/to4e hybrid turbo on an SR20Det before running an intercooler and with a boost spike to 22psi it made 350rwhp at 7500 rpm, and thats with
an intercooler, water spray and mappable ignition system.
Love the roll cage! I need one of those....

11.23@123.8 from 1800ccs.
That is still Australias 2nd fastest street beetle.(Nick has run 11.0 in the other one)
Until someone else runs the numbers.....
I don't care what the HP is, it runs the numbers and that is everything in my book.

Can you make any sort of calculation of hp based on the time and final mph, using the weight of the vehicle and driver also?
I am sure I have seen calculators that worjk out some of these things.
Awesome car by the way, and I would have pooh pooh if I was in the passenger seat on that run.

Hi, Ian.
The 45mm side draft is not realy a big limitation as every cylinder sucks through 2 x 45mm throats (if you work out the area, it is much more than the
compressor intake).
I have seen 350 HP with a 45mm Dellorto at 1.5 bar, without intercooler, but with h2o injection.
Oldschool is not that bad. If you have a look at some of the strongest drag beetles ever, they are almost all draw-through and no electronics exept
mabe MSD ignition.
I have done 325 Kw (flywheel) with a 2000cc old school, at 2 bar boost.
Love that car and that wheely on street tyres.:thumb

FLASHBACK
Wow that's good for a laugh !!!!!!!
Thanks for the comments guys. That was 1997. It took a few years to get to the mag. These days with the Internet we can all laugh together. Love the
old skool weber......ssssssssssso much easier these days with EFI.
Power was not the issue with the weber, the fuel would empty out of the bowl when you get close to the 115mph mark. Even with a holley blue with no
reg just a malpassi and a 3mm needle valve it would empty. The way of fixing it was an alcohol valve and another fuel pump under the guard sucking
out the over flowing fuel.
What a mess, but it worked very well. The alcohol enrichment was a washer bottle. Very simple but effective.
I should have persisted with it a little longer as I think it had a bit more in it.
BTW mixture meters were only for the rich guys back then, we just used a pyrometer in the ass and how good it felt.
Life is much easier now !

awesome stuff...It would be great to get all this early stuff (and present) in one location. I know Dave's got a lot of pics, vids etc from"back in
the day".
Maybe we could get a thread started that just contains info and pics on all the cars and those who built and raced.
I know it inspires me.
Cheers

Hey guys,
I have been driving the junka around and have found that now that I am older it is pretty stupid. It bounces off the rev limiter at 8500 (easily) on
23psi. The roads run out very quickly even with 4 wheel discs. I moved the rev limiter up to 9000 rpm and the data logger says 8680 rpm. With street
tyres it's pick a gear and fry them.
So I have been thinking that I might put a girlier cam in it and tame down the boost. I might also put a wank tacho and boost gauge in so I can try
to keep an eye on things.
more later!

Yes I have some inboard footage of the early stages of tuning, but it's not that great. I did video the hand controller so you can see the info. Now
I just need to work out how to get the footage from dvd to mpeg. I wish I was a computer geeek.!!!!!!!!
