Not my style at all - But you have to respect the amount of time and effort that has gone into it. I can remember this car from way back then and it always amazed me how Troy could keep it so clean and tidy. Now ith that thing in the back which looks like some sort of Horse Power Processing Unit it has gone to a new level of time and effort.

Well done and congrats on not loosing focus :tu: :tu: I look forward to seeing in the flesh.

went to the dyno today to see whats happening, the turbo scavenge pump has been wired up and the alternator is charging ok. they need to fix up the
charge light as it still stays on. they will be putting it on the dyno between now and friday and the sparky is coming back friday or monday to have a look at the charge light..

doing set up tuning off the dyno before it hits the rollers. checking all sensors to make sure everything is working ok. so far so good, should have the car back early next week and i have a few small oil leaks to fix up before the trip to warwick.

Well car is still at the dyno but the progress is positive. Called in there this arvo but tuner was out at a job. Spoke to one of the mechanics who told me that they had it on the dyno this morning early doing some tuning and no real drama's at all. He commented on how loud and angry it sounded(in his Pommy accent) and looked forward to seeing it finished. So another week rolls by and Troy is hoping to get the car back mid next week to fix some minor stuff with the car before Warwick.

Well if all the stars and planets align on a blue moon phase then Troy's car may be finished in time. starting to get beyond a joke with the time it is taking to get stuff done. Car has been back at tuners for 2 weeks tomorrow and has been on the dyno for 1.5 hours in that time. Troy wants to pick the car up on Friday and told them to have it ready but the slack attitude is starting to creep back in again. It might be finished by then if all goes well. Not to mention they keep complaining about how loud it is.

Troy doesn't care how loud it is he just wants it running!!!!

A good cheap sensor replacement is the optic sensor disc and sensor setup from the crane cams CDI ignition. Provided your ecu supports using a dual pulse or ghost pulse as a reference point for 60 deg BTDC it will work a treat.

I considered using a magnetic compufire style disc with an extra magnet glued into it for a reference signal for the new engine but the trigger disc is just too small. Radially mounted trigger discs bolted to the back of the crank pully is how most of the US guys do it, and then at the most you need one single pulse from the distributor to get the engine to be able to run sequential injection and ignition.

Triggering issues are the cause of 99% of custom EFI related startup and tune issues. You can also find that other issues can induce fake errors that can look like triggering issues. Solid core spark plug leads do this, as to non-resistive spark plugs. Two problems so simple to check that pro's will often overlook it.

Hope they sort it all out soon...

Too true, plug leads can cause so many diagnostic issues for efi. My first set up of the choptop, I spent 8 hrs on dyno trying to sort out why it wouldn't even fire/run, after it was fine in my shop for 20 min of camshaft breakin. Ended up being plug leads.:dork:

Troy is using 8.8mm top gun leads. Brand new. the ones with the spiral core. Plugs are NGK. Can't remember which ones but they were suitable for what we needed. When I bought them the guy who served me said this is what he supplies to a lot of turbo Porsche owners.

Knowing our luck it prolly would end up being something like what you've mentioned Ian. Troy has said all along that this car doesn't like to co operate with anyone or anything LOL.

Some of those spiral wound flash do dad leads are nonresistive and send out radio interference that confuses sensors or computer.

Well good news and bad concering the Type 3. Firstly all problems sorted and all good. Secondly the clutch went out to lunch on the dyno.

Car was running well and on 10 PSI boost they got a few runs in before the clutch started to slip. Engine gets to about 3k RPM and clutch lets go under power. Tuner commented on the amount of torque it produces and was a lil surprised at just how much. It was making 250 odd Hp before clutch started playing up. That is the bit Troy was happy with!! Making 250 odd on 10psi when he wants to run 18-20 means goods things to come perhaps.

In the meantime it could be an engine out exercise this week for a stronger clutch to handle the power. Annoying yes but any progress is better than no progress.

It's good to see some power figure's but the tuner is a bit slack though having it for so long and only 1.5 hours of work done to it, i bet if it was a tokyo racer it would have been done the first day, their probably scared to believe a dub is capable of so much power. Good luck with the clutch issues.

nah haven't done anything yet. troy is on holidays from tomorrow so he will pick the car up tomorrow morning and take it home and investigate further. Even if he can get it so that he can just drive at warwick in the street parade etc for now he would be stoked enough at that. Racing well dunno there. Might just do a couple of drive by's lol

big job to pull engine out especially in a short space of time. Have to basically dismantle the intake and exhaust to remove engine out of the car.

just got a call from Troy as he picked up the car from the dyno. He said it drives great just like a modern car but with the tall 4th gear at 60k's it gets a bit surgy. clutch is definately gonsky as he was in 3rd and going up on of the hills on Kingston Rd and just eased his foot down and it just let go as soon as it boost increases. In the back streets to my Parent's place he turned into one of the longer streets and from lowish RPM in 2nd then slowly accelerated till boost was climbing then push his foot down and it just turned the tryes and broke loose easy as then clutch slip.

so in all he was happy to finally drive it after nearly 7 years of waiting and is currently removing the engine to replace the clutch.

well done, couldn't picture Troy taking it easy with a dud clutch.........the job had to be done, so it may as well have been this week rather than next

top stuff........no more dyno time before Warwick?

nah it will run with the tune it has for now. It's not getting full throttle and only running 10psi boost max. tune is very safe and on the richer side of the scale.
