Thanks for the kind words Lee! :kiss
Slowly a little more progress on the DTM - had to wait for the alternator (75amp) and backing plate to arrive before trial fitting them. Still a few
more pieces to test before paint is applied and the engine goes back in (I've been missing driving this thing!). 66deluxe is kindly doing the leg
work to sort out the sealing tin in aluminium so will update its progress once its done.
Sorry about the odd angle pic (garage door was shut and didn't have much space!)
Cheers

Das, hopefully have the tinware done this weekend coming, my father put me onto a guy who buys welding supplies from my dad's work, this guy has just
bought a water jet cutter and is looking for work. He has been the most helpful of all the companies i have been to. Going there on tuesday again to
drop off the aluminium and designs. Will keep in touch, cheers Damo.

Wish every weekend was a long weekend! Always manage to get lots more done when you have that extra day!
The DTM shroud and ancillaries were prepped, primed then painted in base/clear the same colour as the body. The third pic is the alternator backing
plate (aluminium) which is to supposedly provide some extra rigidity for the f/g shroud.
Once Damo and I get the sealing tin sorted, the engine can go back in finally!

The shroud is back in place after painting - need to track down some woodruff keys for the fan and alternator pulley before the alt backing plate etc
goes back in.
Also if anyone has all the other hardware for the fan mounting that would be great (ie. the shims, wavy washer, collet thing that locates the fan, and
the big nut) - obviously be happy to pay (used to have these things laying around until the "big clean up").

Hey Das,
How do you rate the Dynamat ? Does it make a noticeable difference to the amount of road & engine noise that get into the cabin ? I spose what I'm
getting at is do you reckon it was worth the investment ?
I also wanted to get this thing back on the first page where it belongs.
Cheers

Hey Brendan - I personally think the dynamat/stinger roadkill is a worthy investment. I must admit that my car is fairly loud regardless as I run
minimal headliner (only the centre section) and the dual carbs and exhaust certainly make a bit of a racket at times.
However, at bare minimum, insulating the doors, rear quarters, and rear firewall section would be worthwhile. I used cheaper material to do the
floorpan as the good stuff can rack up the dollars pretty quickly.

Bit more progress - thanks to Dave (dangerous) for the fan hub etc, I could get the alternator assembly back together and bolted in place on the
shroud.
Also, how nice is that billet CNC crank pulley!

Extremely well - no modification to the shroud required at all. The time taken to trial fit each shroud they sell pays off (mind you, you get what you
pay for). Definitely worth the investment.

Bit of progress finally - took ages to make the sealing tin out of aluminium (Damo - will have to fix you up for that sheet). Nonetheless it's done
and engine is back in (but still have a few things to sort out before everything is reconnected). Time just seems to slip away every weekend!

It loops back around and feeds into the oil cooler housing - that is a separate piece from the shroud itself so that cylinders 3 and 4 are not robbed
of cooling air. The oil cooler housing then has an outlet in the normal dog house position. Have a look at http://www.aircooledtechnology.com for more info if your interested.

Hey Damo - just a word of warning - be prepared to do some modification of the sealing tins to get them all to fit. Mainly the ones around the
manifolds and the front tins over gearbox, I guess due to everyone's setup being slightly different.
Finally had a free night to do some work on the beetle - progressed a little further on the DTM installation. Lost an hour or so after bolting up the
carb and manifold on one side, only to realise I forgot to pull the rags out of the inlet ports - lots of swearing later and things were back on
track. The carb linkage has to be relocated forward to clear the shroud (hence mockup of adaptor plates in mdf).
Hopefully oil lines will be done tomorrow night or saturday as well as miscellaneous ancillaries - touch wood it will be back on the road in next few
days.

Finally fired up the type IV again today. The DTM is now finally fully assembled - bit more tidying up to do and bolt up the rear apron etc then can
finally drive it again! Here are a few pics.

I'll be interested to know how much difference it makes to oil temps. The shoptalk forums have argued a lot about these things, and Jake Raby makes
big claims about them too. Be nice to hear the facts from someone this side of the atlantic...and someone we know and trust.
BTW, is the shroud metal or fibre glass?

Cheers guys - it will be interesting to see how the efficiency of the system compares - will update once I do a bit more driving.
Thanks Damo - I just used a spare dipstick adaptor I had (it is shorter than Jake's version but I just had to make the hole in the sealing tin big
enough to allow the whole stick to go through including the flange with the rubber seal inside) - I'll get some more pics once complete so you know
what I am talking about! Cheers for the offer though!

Finally the ragtop saw the light of day again today - engine is back together with no oil leaks (fittings were leaking last time around) and is
running well.
It was nice to finally drive it again after a couple months off the road!
