G'day staggers, no probs dropping around - I think I should be home. With regards to the fuel line, it obviously is going to be less protected under the pan like that compared to the through the tunnel. However you would have to bottom out over a big hump or something to damage it - it would be one in a million to have a rock flick up and pierce it....I'm not too worried about it.

I installed a 10mm stainless hard line through the tunnel of my old ragtop (well my mate Alan did most of it!)....it was quite a struggle even with the body off the pan. It can be done but it is hard to get it right and takes a fair bit of time.

Managed to get the carbs on as well as exhaust - although the custom rear apron (exhaust cutouts were filled) is very very close to the exhaust dump pipes. So I'll address that over the next week, although at warwick I will be running no exhaust (will weld up a straight outlet ala stinger but just without the taper).

Engine bay looks messy whilst waiting for the dizzy from the US - will get the wiring sorted shortly (time always disappears eh?)

Started cutting and polishing the body this arvo as well so that is looking nice and glossy. Hopefully will finish that tomorrow.

Today I managed to finish the cutting, polishing, and swirl removing of the entire body - takes bloody ages but is worth the effort as the paint has come up beyond my expectations. Once I finish the rest of the assembly I'll wax it too for extra protection.

The first pics are after polishing but before swirl removing.

The third just shows the notch in the background.

And this is what I feel is the money shot! The reflection tells the story of the paint finish....pretty shmick in my opinion!

As per usual ran out of time with all the running around for the business (yay the fitout of the clinic starts next monday!)....I'm going to struggle to get it done for Warwick but there may be a few late nights over the next week and a half to get it there! I would have liked to have it registered before the meet but I don't think it will happen, ah well.

Nice Al - Looks a bit better than on the weekend.

Hope Little Blup58 didn't add any repair work when he was hovering with those sharp tools.

I think you need to retract that comment about - struggling to finish it by Warwick.

I find the comment offensive and as a moderator on the forum you should know better.

Change it to something along the lines of - "It will be finished for Warwick and I intend to be dropping big smokey burnouts in my shiny car!"

I find this much more productive and pleasing to the reader.

Just fulfilling my role as the devil on your shoulder!!!

Managed to get the wheels on today after cutting down all the bolts (too long thus fouled internal brake components). These pics were just after it was dropped from the jackstands so nothing has really settled yet - obviously I will want it a bit lower than this!

I changed the rear tyres to Nankang 205/65 15s but I will have to see if they have adequate clearnace for the guards - if not, the 185s will have to go back on (damn long axles!).

Got dicked around today after being promised a starter motor which didn't eventuate....but luckily Alan (063bug) will lend me his for the weekend so I can get this thing started - not long until warwick now. Hopefully I will pick it up tomorrow. Over and out for now.

Well - what a couple days of trials and tribulations!

To give you a quick update, I finished the engine installation yesterday and was all excited about firing it up....until I couldn't turn it over by hand at all at first. After some checks (take out starter motor, pull off carbs to check I didn't leave any rags in the ports!, listen for flywheel rubbing in bellhousing etc etc).

Gradually it became easier to turn over but still had a really hard spot (when cylinder 1 was going up on its compression stroke)...this got me worried - checked all tappets (no bent or dropped valves thankfully). Tried turning it over with starter motor which it did, still with some difficulty on cylinder 1 compression but didn't fire. Packed up for the night pi$$ed off ready to pull engine and replace with 1600 for warwick.

Under desperation I called dave "dangerous" butler for some guidance - he kindly donated his time today to lend a hand. Thanks for your assistance Dave, its people like yourself that make this hobby of playing with veedubs so special! Problem #1 turned out to be a fuel filled cylinder #1 - on compression stroke with valves closed it was obviously hard to squash all that fuel - the engine turned over easier and easier by hand as the fuel disappeared. Sweet.

Despite me assuring myself that I checked and rechecked all the obvious things, Dave diagnosed my mistake in about 90 seconds flat - I mixed up #1 and 2 spark leads on the dizzy cap - once sorted it fired up!

So Dave kindly donated some more time to do a quick front end wheel alignment and left with me much happier than when he arrived!

So after bolting down the fuel tank, tightening up miscellaneous bolts, I wanted to give it a run around the block.....but couldn't get 1st, 2nd or reverse - "oh $hit" I was saying worried what it could be this time. Tried adjusting shifter without luck but I was sure it was the shifter that was the problem - swapped it with the notch's stock shifter and voila - reverse, 1st and 2nd all sweet!

I think the shifter holes may just need a bit of elongating and it will be sorted (will tackle that tomorrow). Once the shifter was sorted I gave it the first spin around the block and all I can say is that thing hammers (or "hauls ass" as the yanks would say).

Now I can't wait for warwick! Tomorrow I have to install one more window, fix a small fuel leak on one carb, and a number of other jobs to prepare for the strip.

Here are a few pics after the carbs were synched and suspension had settled a bit - I'll leave the 009 and gt40 coil in for now (I received my mallory dizzy today but the promaster coil I got was a dud).

So all is happy, better get back to work - too much to do before friday!

Thanks Cam, I thought I'd give it an extra squirt of the "loud" pedal for ya on the way past! You're lucky I didn't do a lap around the block with the muffler off and homemade stinger on - that would have got all the neighbours in Palmy cranky!

On another note, I pretty much finished the carpet today and installed the door and quarter trims. Drivers seat is in place and may throw in the passenger seat for Warwick. A few other niggly little jobs are also done including running boards, another brake bleed and adjust and misc other tasks. Not long to go now - we'll see how it goes on the weekend!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to take you for a spin Damo (and 063bug) - I'll leave the engine in for a week or two maybe so if you want a drive be quick to come down the coast before it recieve the 1600!

Here are a few pics at warwick - managed to get a lot of bits and pieces done and it performed really consistently - no dramas at all with brakes, gearbox or anything else which was fantastic. I took it easy taking off from the line (rather than side stepping the clutch) as I wanted to treat the gearbox kindly. All went well!

Hey Das-what did you use for belt line seals for the 1 piece windows?I'm doing mine at the moment.Trying to figure a way to make a better system to keep as much water as possible out of the doors.
