Baby booster seat anchor point Beetle
Hi Everyone,
Anyone suggest a company in the Northern burbs of Melbourne, that could fit a anchor point for a child booster seat in the rear of my 66 AU Beetle?

sorry i can't recommend anyone in Melbourne, but i do have a set of blue plated (registered) anchor points in my '69 beetle put in by Pete from
Custom vee-dub in Brisbane (ph: 07-33564356). maybe he could help you out with someone in Melbourne who could do it?
essentially the anchor point gets mounted just underneath the rear winscreen. the bolts and plate have to be fitted through the vent under the window
on the outside of the car which i was told is an absolute pain in the arse. Didn't cost much for the point. the compliancing was done at mates
rates.. but up here its about 150-180 to get it done. sorry i can't post pics... my car is in the shop at the moment. Just check the mounting
requirements with your registry body. VIC roads? as it may differ from the laws up here in QLD
Good luck with it. I take my son with me everywhere in my car. He's almost 2 now and he's been my co-pilot since he was 1. he thinks it is the
greatest! he'd prefer a ride in my car anyday. mum's new just just doesn't make him say "weeeeee!!!" got another little one on the way too...
lucky i thought ahead and got a point mounted on both sides

I managed to sort out after 20 phone calls and sniffing around on the net for a suitable place. My 2 year old can't wait till I get her seat in the
car.

Hahaha yeah it took me ages to find someone who knew what they were talking about. Most of the engineers I talked to fist said it couldn't be done...
But they were wrong and I took the car back to show them just to rub
their noses in it lol. I ended up getting in contact with the engineer that wrote the guidelines! Turns out he was a beetle nut and was more than
happy to help.
Only thing I think which is a down side of the bug is probably ventilation... Especially when it's hot. He surely does get sweaty even with the
quarter panels and windows open. Tinted windows would be nice too.

If you are handy, and let's face it, when you own a vintage VW you probably have to be, just find out the specs such as the backing plate size and
fitting requirements, fit it yourself and then just have the certification done to make them legal. Heaps cheaper and this is what I've done in the
past (we can do this in Qld, not sure of other states though).
My last car was a Landrover which had no anchors, asked a mod place what plate size to use, found out how it had to be fitted (usually with a rivet so
the plate is captive), then fitted it all and got the inspection done. From memory it was under $100 for the mod plate. Would have been $250 or
thereabouts to have it done and mod plated. Bit of a difference so pays to do what you can.
