The problem is it isn't necessarily the sender that is sending the mail to you...
It spoofs addresses from the hosts.
Your ISP isn't doing the right thing. Virii of this kind should be pulled by their mail servers. Ring 'em and give 'em serve...
Doesn't matter if you fix it your end ... infectedmachines will cotinue to spew it out...

The names come from files on the infected machine...
If the infected machine has browsed web pages any email addresses on that page will become spoofed sender addresses.
If they have mailboxes or lists of email addresses it will grab those too.
As long as you don't open the attachments you should be fine.

Which one ?
Which version of Sobig is it ? Win32.SobigF ?
Nachi has been cutting sick on our network. The little bugger gets in and then tries to open a few ports up and bring its mates in to create havick.
Little bugger duplicates and evolves pretty well while it is at .
I have a nice big firewall to prevent that so it just overloads the bandwidth till I can delete the little bugger. Damn users bring in attachments.
Soon closed those ports down now no more viruses.
A lot of the time it isn't even coming from people you know, it is just adding extensions onto domain names at random.
