Moving Indicators
Hi,
was just wondering if anyone had ever tried to get a beetle through rego after moving the indicator from the top of the guard into an early
headlight. For my Brother in Laws 61 as he likes the look of the clean guards.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Nope. ADR rules state the indicator must be visible from the side of the vehicle especially is the vehicle originally came with indicators that were
visible from the side.

Hi
Maybe hook up some motor bike blinkers for rego.
The ADRs must not apply to modern cars, so many times I come to a roundabout and cant see a modern cars indicators, they are sometimes obscured by
reflections on the headlight surface or by bad design.

Was it only the American models that had the indicator in the headlight? Did the Australian model have a front indicator?

Yes but selling these vehicles is good for the economy and so such things can be passed over. Just like the wheel spacers used on Porsches are legal
under the ADR but the exact same spacers would be illegal used on any other vehicle with a porsche stud pattern

The spacers used on the porsche's are obviously engineered by porsche to work on there car and as such are on the vehicle when they are approved, a
bit different to just anybody putting a set on there car because the wheels did not fit. after all it the other cars do not have the porsche
suspension they are disigned to work with.

No bug was ever like that originally, it's just a mod lots of owners have done over the years, turning the parkers into indicators, more often in
places like US were vehicle modifications aren't policed.
Aussie models had semaphores till 60 then guard top indicators from then on

Technically if the spacer has been designed to withstand it's intended use then if that spacer were to be used on a Beetle or Kombi with the porsche
stud pattern then there really is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to be used.
As for aftermarket spacers they just need to be made correctly to be allowed for use too and that's where things fall down.

What model Porsche used wheel spacers? I have the Porsche parts program PET on my computer and I cant find a listing for wheel spacers.

I think it was the 993 version of the 911 but know it's a fat arsed model of the 911 from the last 6-7 years.

Yes, Late model Lancers [past few years] have the blinker in front of the headlamp and My Son noticed people didn't seem to know where he was
turning...
because of the headlamps being On..
He has them on all the time...
Early Beetle headlamps with the blinker in front of the headlamp reflector are illegal and wont be passed by most mechanics..
they are nearly impossible to see in the daytime...
unless You know where to look... lol
look great at night with the headlamps OFF.. lol
motorbike or small LED blinkers under the front bumpers are OK... so long as they are not too close to the centre of the car..
[not like new Lancers where they are next to the grill???]

Thanks everyone, he has decided to go with the motorbike indicators and if it's no good then he will drill the holes in the guards afterwards and
treat the bare metal. All your input has been helpfull and I've learnt a bit on the way as well.
