Hi Steve
"Cooler and fan dimensions are 8 1/4' long, 6" wide, and 6" tall. The actual cooler is only 7" wide, it's 8 1/4" from the edge of mounting
flange to edge of mounting flange. The cooler has 19 rows. " Here is the link ( http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Setrab-Single-Fan-Pack-Oil-Cooler-p/fp119m22i.htm ).
I mocked up a cardboard version of the cooler from Rocket Industries that we discussed when we were at Westie's but was having problems fitting it
above/near the gearbox as it was pretty big. It looks as though the Setrab single unit is smaller and may fit better....I'll need to mock up a
cardboard version for it as well to test it for fit.

I run a 10.5" square trucool on my karmann ghia and it is a tight fit, single fan, it is a good idea to put a scoop under the car and pay attention
to the rotation of the fan , i have mine set up to push air through the cooler and the scoop supplies air in that direction, get the biggest cooler
you can and do not forget to install a oil thermostat as well.

the dual fan version that Damo (deluxe66) fitted was around 16 x 8" with 2 fans. It was such a tight fit a carddboard mock-up would not give you a
true indication. I agree with VWo60 that the largest possible with a thermostat is required. I just fitted an Empi 96 row with fan to my 2 litre type
1, it has early fan and no stock cooler and runs cool as because engine, cooling and oil systems are set up correctly.

when you fit a scoop under the car it is constantly changing the air over the gearbox, it made a good measurable difference to my set up, it apears to
me that the air space on top of the gear box is heated by the exhaust and could do with a bit of help with the circulation.

Hi
That twin fan Setrab is a big unit
Its probably not everyone's favourite solution but I like to run the cooler at the front of the car, easy on a 1302 or 1303 as there is plenty of
space.
I have no internal cooler on my sons 1303 and plate oil cooler about 150 x 150 in the nose of the car, I'm going to fit a Mazda one in there in
future.

I fit mine above gearbox and was a mission. Mines a twin fan setrab. You can fit it above gearbox just takes time and good planning. Will try to get
pics for you later today.

I have a ducted oil cooler up near gear box, never had the fan on and I drove the car to QLD few times in summer.

I ordered the bracket with mine to mount it. I have a Torrens 5 bar kafer brace bar fitted also so install was hard with that in place. Basically i
drilled out the rivets which held the left fan assy and welded some screws onto the mounting bracket. I then fitted the cooler with only the right
side fan still attached from the drivers side of gearbox i then was able to reinstall the passenger side fan from the left back onto the welded on
studs and secured them with washers and nylock nuts. With the cooler now in place i used right angle bracket to secure to cooler and then drilled two
holes each side through luggage area and attached these with bolts. At the rear i used two cushion clamps to secure to the crossbar of the kafer bar
setup. I then used phenix brand AN fittings and stainless braided lines. All up it was minimum 3 hours work, but the results were well worth it. I
don't have the best pics for you but hopefully have givien you the general idea.

If your using the engine oil as a temperature reference for the ECU you could turn the fans on via the ECU, much nicer.

Hi Steve
The ECU was using the oil temp for start up and I have purchased a new Temperature Sensor II ( http://www.findpart.org/part/bos-0280130012 ) and will connect that to the ECU as well near cylinder # 3.
My understanding is the the CB Performance EFI kit uses only a Cylinder Head Temp for start up and not the Oil Temp because of the excessive amount of
time that the oil takes to warm up...
Either way, I'll have both connected to the ECU so that we can use either one.

I run one of these to control the fan, it has on and off points that you set and a alarm feature, works great, the trucool oil cooler with the single
fan was not easy to fit but it leaves a bit more room than the cooler with the two fans.

Yes it does the same job but would not fit into the ghia and look out of place, the one i bought works great as well as giving you a acurate oil temp,
i have the sender on the return oil line from the cooler, the cable supplied is long enoungh to fit into the ghia if i installed the box that came
with it in the foot well under the carpet but the guy did say you can extend the cables withuot a problem.
