36hp oil level
Can someone with a 36hp please measure the length of their dip stick as i have a feeling mine is from a later model.
It is throwing oil out from the rear pulley when i push it (70mph plus) for a while.
The length is 130mm from the stop to the full mark.
Also refilling 2.5 lts. only brought it to the lower mark not the full mark.

hi steve,
the one i have here is 133 from the full mark and 161 to the low mark.
177 to the tip
This is measured from the face of the little bell thing, not inside the bell where the tube stops.

On my factory original 60 model:
Dipstick = 137mm from full, 161mm from low, 177 to tip.......as Dave has done, this is measured to the face of the bell top.
Tube is 19mm
On my 54 rebuilt motor:
Dipstick = 135mm, 161mm, 177 to tip.
Tube is 19mm

Thanks dave & craig for the info, they are the same as mine and the tube is the same length. So why is it throwing oil out at high speed.(excessive
crankcase press?) It is a recon motor but has been sitting for a fair few yrs.It is supercharged by a Judson running 6-7psi max. boost.

Steve, there is 4mm difference between one of Craigs and mine,
so I think you may be just a little over full.(also you said 2.5lt was not at the full mark)
But yes, it is possible that you may not have enough breathers on your engine,
or the sitting around has caused you some issues with your rings.
The other issue may be that because it has been "rebuilt", it may have worn bores with new rings,
or rebored cylinders that are not round.
or even a line bore that is off centre, that allows oil to escape past the pulley.
If the engine is performing well and not making noises, and not burning oil,
I would not bother looking for anything internal.
Just add some better breathers and at worst a sand seal.

Do you have the crankcase breather plumbed on the pressure side of the supercharger?

| I think i may try running with the oil level slightly reduced and see what happens.
As to the quality of the builld ,the previous owner said it was done by Mullers and nothing was spared(cost twice amount quoted)New everthing.
Also it was a test and i would not normally drive it that hard.
Have also read the Judson should not be fitted before a motor has done some miles(can't remember where).
I will see how it goes and maybe fit a sand seal anyway
Is the pulley the same as a later model.

Pulley is a larger diameter than 40hp
I have a Berg sand seal cutter that 'can' be used with the engine assembled if you need one.

Steve
You should do an oil change and then re fill with 2.5 liters run for a few minutes and allow to sit then see where it comes to on the dip stick
make a mark with a fine file for the new full mark you can use some drink bottles or go to Auto one they have 1 and 1/2 liter oil bottles with
nice spouts for pouring into engine oil hole
Oil is cheap make sure you allow it to drain for a while before and allow to sit for 30 minutes or so after starting on level ground
