h4 conversion

Anyone done a H4 conversion to a 68? I was sent neolite neo-917 lights from micks motors... Stated as suiting golf 1.... They look like they will work, but well.... Neolite website does list beetle specific lights... Who used what and are these things I've got suitable or am I sending them back?

Mk1 Golf and 74+ Beetles, Kombi etc use the same headlights but they can be fitted to 68-74 models.

If you pop your old headlights out you'll see in the top there will be 2 tabs that the semi-sealed Neolites mount to.
They may be bent over flat and need straightening up.

Looks to be the original guard. The little metal tabs that I used to mount the first side are identical to the other.... So the tabs are identical. If that makes sense... I fixed it, kind off. The chrome ring sits over and they are ... Mostly... Facing right

Hi

That will convert the bases fit H4 bulbs but your still stuck sometimes crappy VW reflectors, a H4 semi sealed beam is much better.

I had to get whole new lights as roadworthy failed on the rust inside em  I fit the neolites after hours of messing about, now they're straight, true, and bright. Next step... HID.

You'll find out those are a defect item too.
Its illegal to retrofit HIDs in aus to anything that didn't have them from the factory.
You may be able to get them engineered but to be legal they need self leveling projector housings and headlight washers.

A lot of the general public don't realize they are a defect item as so many places sell them and get away with it because of the tiny "for offroad use only" lables on the box

I know they are not legal... Won't stop me though ! Mate has proper tools and some funky machine to correctly aim headlights so will retrofit HID then aim them properly, should get away with it  there is a few old school vws around my area that have em fitted.

EDIT: the HID kit will be done AFTER Thursday's roadworthy
