Thinking wheel bearings...?
Just a quick question, hoping maybe one of y'all can help!
Driving my dub the other week I noticed a whirring sound coming from the front right wheel hub area (at least i think it was from there), and when I
slow down there is somewhat of a crunching noise that slows directly with my speed. The wheel doesn't feel loose, does this sound like it could be a
wheel bearing issue?
Or anything else I should check? I'm taking it in to the workshop asap, just thought I might be able to diagnose it!
Cheers,
Ollie

Could be, jack it up and spin the wheel, ANY noise apart from slight rubbing of the disc pad and yes, wheel bearing.

I've heard of a smart phone but never thinking wheel bearings.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

Could be the wheel bearings.. they are supposed to be repacked every so often.
if You have drum brakes it could be parts from the brake system like the pin and clip that hold the brake shoes in place
[plus the spring] which would make a grinding noise when the drake drum is going slow..
once the wheel bearings start to disintergrate after getting red hot..... the brake drum is the only thing holding it in place... but they would
actually get worse at speed not when going slow..
So, If Your wheel is still OK and you can't move it sideways, then I would guess the brakes....

PS: I have never ever had wheel bearings go, as I always grease them with lithium based MOLY grease...
clean and repack them ....
