External Oil cooler/fan
What are some options for an external oil cooler/fan set up? Only really found the Bugpack kit online so far - uses a Mesa cooler. Dont want anything
too big as needs to fit somewhere in gearbox/axle tube area on a beetle.
Needs a thermastat for the fan and maybe a bypass also to let oil warm up on startup. Will be running full flow system and want to retain original
doghouse.

Empi do both items, readily available from all the main suppliers. I have seen on forums that some people advise to dismantle and inspect the bypass
valve before using to check if circlips are seated properly and or ings are ok.
I have also seen a CSP item that the bypass valve is built into the remote oil filter/cooler adaptor housing. Very schmick.

I have a cooler with a fan fitted to my ghia with a thermostat, use the largest one you can fit as the thermostat will control the temperature, also
run a controller on the fan so you can dial in the turn on and turn of temperature. 11" x 11" square trucool plate oil cooler. with a 10" fan.

Do you run an external filter also - i am guessing it must be plumbed to run in line with the cooler? Does the fan kick in often?

Fan comes on as required depends on the temperature and how you drive it, the engine is a 2275 with 10.8 to 1 compression ratio so it does generate a
bit more heat than a standard engine, it has a oil filter ahead of the cooler and runs the standand dog house oil cooler, if you use the temperature
controller you set the cut in and cut out fan to suit your needs.
