beetle starts then stops

Hi all im tinking i might have a fuel pump issue as my beetle will start, run perfectly, then stop and in paticular when i go to move it a few mins in to running.

It feels like it starves and then stops under load; brings it on i think.

choke is adjusted well and opens fine

anyone else had this issue or any other ideas?

Check your fuel filter if you have one. Also shine a torch lite under the front wheel arch. Look for the fuel line where it connects to the tank. I had one kink itself over and stop the majority of fuel.
A few ideas.

If it was fuel it would do it even when idling?
Just try idling for a while, enough to empty the bowl.
if it can idle then it isnt pump

How long has it been doing this??
I am assuming this is a new fault??
or has it never worked and its a new car??

I had a similar problem, the car would sit and idle all day if needed but when I went to move off it would stop, turned out to be an almost totaly blocked fuel filter.

does the accelerator pump work? take off your air filter, look down the carb (with the car off) if you pump the throttle with you hand, do you see a good squirt of fuel going down in there?

Idling proves your idle jet works :tu:

Hi
You can probably take the tank out of the car, fairly easy, and replace the hose under the tank.. use a piece longer than You need so it doesn't crimp closed.. seen that happen many times.. lol
I have two fuel filters under My fuel tank..

You could use many cleaners on the market to clean inside the tank..
biggest problem is rust in the tank from any water..

You can also get special paint/coating to paint inside the tank..
if You wish.. but if its clean after you have cleaned it..
I like the el cheapo foaming $2-3 foaming degreaser spray cans..
Just spray wait about 30 seconds and hose off...

cheers

LEE
