Hill Climberer


I have a 63 Karmann - stock as a rock (with 12 V electrics).

I would like to have some fun with it and am thinking of making a hill climber (and retaining as my daily driver).

The pepsi-challenge is... all mods are ideally bolt on as I want to retain originality.

Thoughts?

Go to mt cotton test & tune now, find the DARK BLUE not black beetle(sides on here) watch,learn,ask questions, hardest bit will be fitting decent wheel/tire combo without reducing track width or flaring guards.

I always wanted to do hill climb. its my fav motor sport event.

is there any in vic towards central area? I have never heard of any.

Not sure if Mount Tarrengower hillclimb is still operating. It's near Maldon.



I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

appears it still does. checked out some videos, man its a short track but looks fun none the less.

Is there any special regulations required to run a car on hill climb? or can you do it with standard daily driver?

Daily driver should be fine road worthy is the main criteria I think

not any of the cars I saw in the video were road worthy. all were full track cars, cage and all the race gear. But if normal cars can be taken I wouldn't care either way.

Contact the people who run the hillclimb - probably a local car club, and ask them what is required. If it CAMS affiliated, then you will need a competition licence. An approved helmet will also be needed.

Your car will need to pass the scrutineering check, to make sure it complies with the rules for the class you are running in, and is safe to drive in the event. A fire extinguisher and 2 springs on each carby are probably all you will need to do on a good, roadworthy, road-registered car.

I'm sure you will have a lot of fun hillclimbing........I sure have.:yes:

double springs factory standard, then just a extinguisher?

Will look into this once my new car is on the road and refined.
