Pick the odd one out

See if you can spot the odd-one out:

2013 European Car of the Year - VW Golf 7
2013 Japan Car of the Year: - VW Golf 7
2013 World Car of the Year - VW Golf 7
2013 CarsGuide Car of the Year - VW Golf 7
2013 NRMA/RACV Best Car of the Year (Sports under $50K) - VW Golf 7
2013 WHEELS Car of the Year - VW Golf 7
2013 Drive Car of the Year - Mazda 6

http://motoring.ninemsn.com.au/cars/news/8784197/winner-vw-golf-takes-out-whe...

Drive (SMH, Age) didn't even award the Golf any category awards, let alone outright. They thought the Ford Focus was better, and the Toyota 86 better than the (faster and more powerful) Golf GTI.

Any anti-VW bias at Fairfax??

They are the worst car I ever driven. They should be dead last.

No mention of hyundai? I thought they would be on top.

Hyundai often wins one of the 'Australia's Best Cars' awards, because they have numerous 'category' awards based on price, not one 'overall' prize. The i30 won the 'Best Small Car Under $35k' for 2013. Volkswagen won two of the Best Car Awards. The Golf GTI won Best Sports Car Under $50K, and the Touareg won Best Luxury SUV Over $65K. Look here for this year's results, with links to also browse previous results:

http://www.australiasbestcars.com.au/WINNERS-2013

The WHEELS award still seems to be most prestigious, as it's been going the longest. The Renault 8 won the first WHEELS Car of the Year in 1963. Volkswagen's first WHEELS award was in 1974 for the Passat. The Golf has now won the award three times - in 1976, 2009 and 2013. Only the Ford Falcon (1965, 1966, 2002) and Holden Commodore (1978, 1988, 1993, 1997, 2006) have also won three times or more. The latest issue of WHEELS, with all the results and the details of their testing is out now. One of the testers, Nathan Ponchard, is a VW fan who used to edit the Express Publications 'Volkswagen Australia' magazine in 1998 (the mag that followed Geoff Paradise's efforts and before Craig started VWMA).

But yes, Drive saying the Focus beats the Golf is ridiculous and shows how out of touch the greenie-leftie Fairfax press has become. Stay away from the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age - they don't know what they are talking about.

As their prices keep rising and their circulation withering, it won't be a problem for long.

hahaha Die! :punk:

I still can't believe they would think the focus is the best. It is honestly the worst car I have ever driven.

Ridiculous road noise. No kidding it sounds like the doors are open, thats what I thought the problem was but they were firmly shut.

Bad economy. equivalent to an SUV

Very difficult to work out how to use simple things like the wipers and such. Not intuitive at all.

handles like a shopping cart.

Worst DBW throttle response ever. About 1 sec on and off response, unbearable and dangerous in my opinion.

Sorry for the rant but this car is just awful. :td:

Was it the Age that was trying to nail VW for the death of the girl in the VW golf here in Melbourne?

You mean the manual one where the girl was using her mobile phone for 11 minutes?

VW mustn't be spending big on advertising with the Age.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!
