If my memory is right that tinware is from the "intermediate" 40HP engine from Kombis. Most likely the cases have all been changed out for the "normal" 40HP case for many years. The intermediate engine had the thrust taken on the #2 bearing. They were treated like the plague even by the mid 60s. Hope that helps.

Good luck with the search. Maybe someone has some hoarded away in their Type 2 trash and treasure.

Yes your right about the engine, total rubbish but the tin ware is a lot nicer than the standard stuff.

I have some bastard parts...have a couple of reco'd /partially assembled cases(old dealer stock)... spotted some early bastard heads in the head pile(square boss bastard heads, take a special rocker assembly). I might have some tin. rebuildable fuel pumps(i can rebuild with VW tools too).

PM if interested...I'm in Adelaide too.

The engine was fine once the engines were recalled , the centre thrust removed and put back where it belonged(the cranks broke as they were taking the thrust of the clutch/flywheel before the thrust bearing).

Also have other parts... rocker post repair studs(for the round boss later bastard heads, including the VW drilling jig for workshop fitment, NOS 40 horse gasket sets, crank seals...other odds and ends. Pretty sure I have NOS stepped crank flywheels somewhere too.!

I also have a used 40hp dual carb manifold set
