Wiring up a new head unit
I own a 1971 super bug and im trying to wire up the head unit but Im having a few problems, I want to run it from the acessory postion so how would I
go about this? Secondly, the head unit loses power when I turn my lights on, press the brake pedal or even use the emergancy button, what could cause
this? |

There is no accessories position, its either always on or only on with ignition unless you rig up the key in/door ajar buzzer terminal like I did in
mine if it still works, so it works only when the key is in the ignition but doesnt need to be turned on.
The cutting out is low voltage at fusebox, usually its the ignition switch.

I recently cleaned the grounds for the tail lights and its fixed the problem, is there a video or diagram on how to hook it up as you've described? |

Have a look on the back of your ignition switch and see if it has terminal S in the circle
If it has check with a test light that it has power when you insert the key.
Many of them don;t work anymore though or are stuck on all the time.
If it does have it and it still works then just hook it to the power wire for your head unit via a fuse

alright, I've been having a fiddle around again and only works the the key is turned to what you'd assume to be the acessory position (I know they
don't have one) and the radio turns on but when the engine is running it wont work. any ideas? would it be easier just to remember to turn it off
everytime I leave the car? |

I think when I did mine last I just popped the bonnet and used a test light on the fuse box to find one connection that was always live. And one that
was only live with the key turned on.
This way clock and Chanel presets etc can hold power all the time. Very minimal power use. And the key on position turns radio on and off.
Shouldn't pose any real probs. let me know if you can't get there.

Hi
On a superbug near the fuse box you will find a neat rectangular blanking plug that was meant to used for the heated rear screen, with a bit of a file
you can fit a rocker switch in there and use it to power the radio. It doesn't take long to get used to using it.
