Super bug bumpers
I've come across a set of late model beetle bumpers that I wanted to use on my 71 superbug but my only question is if the super's bumpers are the
same as the standard's bumpers.
Thanks

all the same, on the front you will find that the holes are needed in a different location but the bumpers have extra holes when made

Hi Steve
So, are the front and rear bumpers on my '76 the same as Super Bug bumpers?
My bumpers have the rubber strip installed.
Regards
Greg

Hi Greg
Mine are from a 76 1300 as well. I bought the rubber strips on mine from a dealer in the early 2000s, they really finish off the bumper.

That is a trick question because its half right.
75 and 76 Beetles and Supers use the same front and rear bumpers but the mounts are different to 74 and earlier bugs with a different bolt pattern on
the body and different bolt pattern on the bumpers.
You have to either mod the bumper to fit the early mounts (which only works with Beetles not Superbugs) or mod the later mounts to suit the early cars
which is what I've done with mine.
But when you are talking 71-74 bumpers yes they are the same front and back.
Original German 68-70 Don't have Superbug mounting holes on the front though.

I have 76 1300 bumpers on my 73 but I used the U shape brackets from a 75 1303 or 76 1300

It depends which brackets you use.
THe Mexican U shaped ones have the same mounting pattern as 74 and earlier bugs but the original German ones are different.
They have a pattern to suit the shock mounts for those big ugly 5mph US dodgem car bumpers
These are my front ones which are off a German (aussie) 76 Beetle with the holes modded to suit the 74 and early body mounts
