Chrome plating

I'm going to have my 71 beetle bumpers rechromed. I live North of Brisbane and looking for a place I can trust to do a high quality job. Has anyone used Pine Rivers Electroplating? thinking of giving them ago.

Probably won't get much change from a million dollars. Getting pretty exxy to get good chrome plating done these days.

A lot of people go stainless, looks good and is cheaper.

Or find a good used set. Unless you are building a show car.

Just got a quote of $940 to strip and re-chrome a set for my 70 bug. Be interested in knowing where I could get a Stainless set myself at this price.......though I haven't been real successful in finding a quality stainless set for much cheaper then that !

Iv heard the stainless steel ones don't fit very well. If some one has tried them please let me know. Im happy to pay $900 to re-chrome my bumpers if its a good job that will last many years.

I just had my original type 3 ones & 5 hub caps done here in Sydney for $1200. Great job. Just need to find a good ole skool tradie in the business who knows what they are doing and dealing with. Other option is try Vintage Vee Dub in Sydney. I think they have some late model beetle bumpers In stock. Not sure if they're SS or not.

For our 71 Beetle I paid $760 to get two bumpers plated 9 years ago.

I had to get a replacement front bar recently, and looked around, and it was $450 to get the front one repaired and replated (Is a thin metal Brazillian one anyway). $500 for a Stainless one, or $180 for a new thin Brazillian one.

Ok thanks, looks like stainless is the same price as re-chroming. seems to be no obvious way to go. lol

Are these German quality bumpers in good condition?

I had heard of people buying new Brasillian bumpers and then getting them chromed...
but the Brasillian and Mexican bumpers are much thinner steel..
and they dent very easily...

A lot of aftermarket parts don't fit exactly as the originals, but bumpers shouldn't be too difficult to fit..
I have a front bumper off a 1971 super on My 68 Beetle and they are very different to a NON Super 68 front bumper..

I posted some pictures of the job I had done at Qld Chrome Plating (Brisbane Southside) for a type 3.
Still to get them on the car - look good but expensive.

Wow both examples of re-chroming look fantastic! Queensland chrome plating might be the go. My bumpers are genuine German Vw bumpers and they are straight. They just need a freshen up after 43 years. And Lee I know what you mean about the super and standard front bars they seem to be a deferent shape.
