New Carbi?

I've got a 1600 tp. My current solex carbi has a bad flat spot. As I've read dubs are under carburetted I'd like to put a dual throat carbi on instead. The EMPI HPMX 40 has been suggested in preference to the webber. Is there any feed back on the EMPI as I have heard they did have issues?

I would not be installing a single dual non progressive, especially one without preheats

They are a pig to jet at the best of times

I would be putting dual twin throats on or a rebuilt German Pict.

I also am not brave enough to use HMPX.
I would be using new Spanish Weber before hand.
I have heard that Decade (Rod Penrose) are ok

I should add that this cabi was recommended by a well known vw parts retailer. He seems confident that the EMPI has worked out all the issues. And at least that is what the company video shows. I'd just like some more pick up not go the whole hog as it is just a standard 1600 rebuild. Are there any cabi specialists for dubs in SE QLD?

The 34 PICT-3 or -4 should work well (is that what you have?), with standard twin port. Flat spot could be due to accel. pump not working/blocked, or retarded ignition timing, or dist-advance not working/properly.

I'd have to check the dissy. The the rebuilder of the engine put in a dissy from larger cc kombi motor. I'm running a 34 PICT now and do suspect the accel pump.

If you have a 009 dissy it's more likely to be the problem

If you run a 009 instead of a vacuum dizzy then that'll be the problem. Flat spot as it comes of the idle circuit onto the main around 1500rpm.

If still got the vac dizzy then so long as throttle spindle hasn't got lots of play in it then just needs a internal clean up. Don't need the rebuild kit unless the top plate gasket or accel diagraphm are shagged.

madness is in the eye of the beholder
