bushing kit for throttle shaft?

Think I have an air leak on the throttle shaft on the carby as the idle rised when I spray carby cleaner on it. Can you still get bushing kits for the shaft or do you have to take it to a shop to get this done? but that probably costs as much as a new carby. In the event it needs a new carburettor what are the options? Ive head the brand new empi carbs you throw in the bin striaght after purchase. Oh its a 1600 tp btw....

If yo have a OG german probably worth the expense I have heard the empies are crap.

I have a Mexican solex on my 1600 TP runs well. Probably the best after market option but the dissy you run also plays a roll in what carbie if its vacuum then go with the sole.

Let me know if you do i have one with around 100klm if you need it. Mitchell

depends on the model of solex as coupla guys on Ebay UK make replacement bushes for those that came with them originally.

I did however got one of the guys to machine up a pair for my 28PICTs that the throttle rode in the carb casting without any bushing.

Yeah i was thinking rebushed, Im in Brisbane, whats a good carby place here? I called one the other day and was quoted 276 dollars to rebuild it, thats pretty expensive?? but an empi paper weight carby is 250 so i guess 276 is not that dear......

Take a look at the carb yourself. Once the throttle lever is removed and you clean around the shaft you'll be able to tell if it's got bushes or not. If it has they come out fiarly easily and the new ones go in much the same.

Checkin it out yourself could save you much beer money :)

Thanks for the links, I'll order those bushes and just put up with it running like a pig untill they arrive. I got quoted 96 dollars to have a carby place reem the hole and put new bushes in it I was going to do that but 21 dollars is a whole lot cheaper, hoping they work just as well. I picked up a couple of new boots for the intake manifold and new thick gaskets too, might as well make sure theres no where else air can get it. Does the fan housing have to be removed to get the duel port maifold off??

Nah, with the manifold ends off their studs they should pull off with the boots undone and then the centre section lifts out.

As an extra precaution I like to sand the mating face of the manifold ends on a sheet of glass with 240 wet n dry lubed with WD40. This ensures the mating face is as flat as a DIYer can make it and will give a better seal :)

Yes awesome idea, so they'll just pull out of there without taking the housing off? you can get to the bolts okay? Just the carbie and fuel pump have to come off....

support bar for the centre section of manifold needs to be undone as the centre section slips inside the manifold ends and the rubber boots act as the seals. However, due to the ends slipping onto the centre section then to have enough manouvering ability the centre section needs to be able to lift up aswell to allow the ends to clear their head studs.

Thanks mate, got em off was a breeze, well that manifold nut closest is a bit of a pain, turning it a flat at a time, but all good. Mick at Mick Motors gave me fiber manifold gaskets saying they seal better than the metal ones. I'll smear some exhaust sealant over them as well.

Yup the metal ones are useless unless both the head flange and manifold flange are dead flat. The fibre are far more forgiving.

When I bought mine only the brass ones were available but the teflon/pt I believe self lubricate a bit so may last longer but only time may tell.
