Had enough of the terrible aussie service..
So I am usually and advocate for supporting aussie business and the like, as I am in the motorbike trade as well, but I have had enough of being
ignored, not getting phone calls returned etc etc and want to know who people recommend getting bits from overseas? Reasonable
freight/knowledge/service?
The reason I have got to this stage is I had said to a particular supplier Ill take those carbs on your site, how much to make them into a kit?
Response was I am really busy building motors at the moment can I get back to you in two weeks with a price? Sure not a problem I say.
So a month later I ask again how are you going with a price and get told I'd better hurry up and come pick them up as I have other people
interested!
Seriously the nerve of some people.. now it has been another week of being ignored and the parts have magically disappeared off his site.
It's no wonder people shop elsewhere.
Saying that though, I have had good service and replies by people like Boris and his team at Vintage and Matt Berry has given out vast knowledge
without ever getting a cent either.
So there are a few out there who still give a crap.
Ahhh rant over.
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

X2 for Matt, he is on a very short list of Aussie vw business that I can't fault.
Just kampers have always been real good to me too.
When it comes to OS, the Americans top the list for service, I have used Dozens of different sellers there and never once been steered wrong
CIP1
DANS PERFORMANCE
PACIFIC CUSTOMS
MOORE PARTS SOURCE
VAN CAFE
GO WESTY
CORVAIR 1 (formally rabs)
JEGS
SUMMIT
the list goes on and add even more private sellers, expect your part generallly 4-10 days from order
The Germans are a bit slower to deal with, but informative. Parts in about 2weeks
The Brits do the job but leave you hi and dry for info. In 2-3weeks your parts just show up
Quit calling rust patina

Or you can whinge here about crappy service and not support the local people who have been around for a lot of years supporting the locals. Boris,
Matt, Micks Motors, Peter Richards, Tooleys and a swag of others have been servicing the VW market for around 40 years but people do not support
them.
This is based on my experience in the motor trade and working on VW's since 1966.
End of sermon.

I understand entirely where you are coming from mate, as I mentioned I am in the trade and we are one of the only bike shops having to turn away work
when everybody else is closing their doors due to being too busy, but where do you draw the line as to how much terrible service to deal with before
shopping elsewhere?
It has been a build up over the last twelve months or so of putting up with this, If I had been able to get what I needed from Boris or the other few
I would have, but at the time they couldn't help.
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

Fair call mate, was pretty much a given anyway with any thing overseas, really did try to shop in australia but our terrible dollars against everyone
else makes it hard to justify sometimes, I will always give the locals first stab at it and have spent thousands at Vintage and the like over the
years, I only just recently bought a ring and pinion off Boris that I could have got elsewhere overseas for cheaper, but sometimes the premium is a
bit much to pay.
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

I've just bought a bunch of engine parts recently, Rod Penrose's stock is damn cheap compared to buying and shipping from the USA atm . Think what
you like, we all have to save a bit of money.

Said it before and I don't mind saying it again.
Rod Penrose gives top service and advice, prices are more than reasonable for engine components, brakes, suspension, tools, etc. His range is
expanding all the time, however he doesn't concentrate on interior components. Must be something to do with drag cars not having carpets, etc.
Vollks has been another source I have had a lot of success with for the interior bits and pieces.
Other than that CBPerformance in the US has given excellent service, although freight charges are not cheap.

Haha yeah tend to agree, and online sites and shopping is great as long as emails are replied to/answered otherwise what is the point? Same as
answering the bloody phone!
Sometimes a few annoying questions need to be answered before people will part with the cash, just a part of business really, the amount of stupid
questions I have to answer all day is astounding! But hey maybe I just caught the guys in question on a bad day.. Either way I won't be giving him
anymore of my hard earned..
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

Have you guys who want great service at extra low bargain prices thought about starting up a business yourselves or buying out the guys who are in
business?
Perhaps then everyone can get great bargains and you can fund it.

I don't believe I said anything about extra low bargain prices.. I would rather my money go to a Aussie vendor any day off the week, but ill be
buggered if I will pay more for that privilege and be made to feel like I'm being a pain in the ass.. regardless of whatever crap may or may not have
given the vendor the craps on that day.
My dad is dying with a stage four brain tumour at the moment but I still manage to keep a happy smiley face for the customers. But hey I guess I'm
just weird!
I really appreciate how hard it is running your own business in these difficult times, which is why I tried to shop Aussie in the first place, rather
than the cheaper overseas option. It honestly was about the service for me, can't speak for the others.
All good though, sorry If I have put peoples noses out of joint..
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

Hey Les, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was having a go at you, was more just making the point that customer service is where it's at, you
didn't need to say anything, I've got a thicker skin than that! No hard feeling at all dude.

Yes, I have given it some thought.
I was in my own motor engineering business in my early twenties, sold it when it became too big to handle at the age of 36 and went sailing around the
world for five years.
Why was I able to do that?
Because I made sure I gave the best service possible, whether you drove a Triumph Herald or a Maserati made no difference, you still got the best
service.
I pay the price asked for, no quibbling, you name the price, I expect the service.
Is that so damn hard?
Obviously Rod Penrose has worked it out.

A purchase of a car bra from a very famous vw parts reseller in Sydney and this started my journey of buying all my parts overseas, I ordered the bra
from the reseller that will remain anonymous, I explained in detail that it was an early beetle even stating the year, when it turned up it was a 68
on bra, when I phoned him to express my disappointment at being supplied the incorrect item the clown stated that they were both the same and they
would fit both models, then refused to take it back, after a few heated phone calls he agreed the take it back but I ended up paying the post, never
been back to him again, just showed me exactly what he knew about the parts he sold and his idea of customer service, still buy 90% of my parts from
OS and in 20 years of doing so I have never been supplied with an incorrect item, just have to know what you are purchasing and have a reliable
reseller.

It's all about shopping around. I've been bitten by some (specifically one supplier!) and just never gone back and would never recommend him to
anyone. On the other hand a few weeks back had exceptional service from Vollks and couldn't say enough about them the same goes for Just Kampers and
Mick motors. Just never use the bad suppliers again but don't tar them all with the same brush.
