OK, so full of excitement I had a cunning plan. I'd buy a Kombi just for the drags, then sell it afterwards to recoup any money spent (Hahahaha!!!!
Yeah, right!!!!). So I rang my darling long-suffering wife to tell her the good news.
She said, "We'll talk about it when you get home from work".
Hhmmmm.
What's going on I wonder?
When I got home today my lady had a very happy "Unbirthday" present for me (birthday was yesterday at work).
IT'S A KOMBI!
Now I need a belt, buckle it up, then sit on the little baby street bike down the 1/4 for the VW drags! WooHoo!
I might have the first 11 second Kombi in Perth.
I'll also have my camera, and will be there from start until at least 7:30pm or so, so hopefully I'll post up some inferior blurry action pieces in
a fortnight.
See you there.

Das Drags is Done! A great time was had by all too, lots of smiles all round.
I rode down to Perth for it, hoping to see a dozen or so VWs tear down the strip.........or casually stroll as the case may be!
Here is the start of the line-up outside the front gate when I arrived (my little street bike at the back, my VW is eternally in bits )
Cool, huh?
We all filed through the gates, went through scrutineering, and the line up started to grow in the staging lanes.
And finally, we were off!
The first few runs the track was really slippery, so those times I rekn are pretty tough. Drive through Perth peak hour traffic, roll up, then run a
quick-fire low-12 straight up! Damn these new VWs are bloody
quick streeters. One of the Golf Rs was in the 11s later on.
Here's a pic of 2 "well-matured" old Beetles, Reub's 5T6 on the left.
As night fell, and after work had done for the day, the lanes started picking up a few more rides.
I was thinking maybe 20, but I rekn there must have been 3 times that easy if not more! Two staging lanes filled up all the way back, this is half the
field (the other half had gone through to the start line)........
14 and 15-second Beetles, 18-second cool Buggys, 23-second Kombis, Golfs running 11s and 12s and 13s all damn day, the diesel Caddy even ran a 16!
Really, really cool. The biggest smile of the night I think belonged to "Haz", his slammed Kombi ran high-23s all within half a tenth all night,
he's my new favourite bracket-killer King! LOL!
More pics from the staging lanes.
The only downer was the little red notch with the WRX motor going pop in first. This car has to be the quickest and longest lasting VW hotrod in the
state, it has been running steady 13s now for what must be damn near 20 years.
Hope it's all cool and running again soon man.
And finally, a handsome debonair bloke who goes by the name of Simon Travaglini also turned up. I remember racing his little yellow buggy at
Ravenswood in my old blue Baja, he has had the thing forever! A genuine Manx, he managed towards the end of the evening to get the times down to a
14.53, not bad for an old-school 1835 that is also 20 years young!
This is what Simon normally turns up at the drags in on race day........ http://www.andra.com.au/latest-news/group-1/1801-hot-rodder-spirit-strong-for...
........but this is where his passion also lies.
( *sigh* sorry man, this must be the worst pic I've taken in 10 years! )
And next time the Motorplex has a "Das Auto, Das Drags" day, well dammit I AM DEFINATELY going to beg/borrow/buy one that runs for myself and get
out there too.

'twas a great night indeed - great to see and hear some dubs at full noise.
My jaw dropped when I realised who's car 5T6 was... Nice to see in the flesh something you watched being created on the web.
Do you reckon you might drag the VWRX down one day too Reub ?
Also commiserations to Choppa for destroying the gearbox... Great reaction and awareness to get it off the racing line so quick too.
Man I wish I had the time and skills to finish my 72.

Simons Manx was the bomb... He drove it like he stole it, spitting flames and barking. Top stuff.
