New rear hub

Hi just bought 2 new rear hubs for a 64 beetle but they didn't come with holes for oil deflector ? Was wondering do you still need a deflector or can you use hub without it ? Any help or advice would be great
Cheers Dave

You will need to drill the holes for the oil slinger in your new brake drums if you want to use the early system, or you can use a later bearing housing and backing plate that has oil drain holes that lets the oil out at below the axel on the back side of the backing plate, this does not use the slinger.
