Hi all
Hi all, been a member for a while but not real active. Am planning on hopefully purchasing a beetle in the near future, and was wondering if there is
anything in particular to look out for? Any years to avoid, any rust prone areas to pay particular attention to etc.
Planning on a rat style bug, nice patina look, lowered as much as is legal and will slowly build up an engine with some decent power to throw in it.
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Nick |

Welcome Nick.
Have look through the members rides and bugs sections to see what others have had to do. Ask questions, everyone here has good advice.
Where are you based?

Rust is your enemy
Early (pre 67) = cool = dearer
late (post 68) = not so cool = cheaper
Personally I prefer the later as they behave better and parts are cheaper, but more susceptible to rust
Later are easier and cheaper is hi po is you aim
Going fast with drum brakes and swing axle aint fun
"lowered as much as is legal" - anything will need engineering to be "legal" and most thing can be "legal" with engineering
Futue te ipsum!!!
