There is no earth on the generator or oil light.

Check for power on the black + from the ignition switch. This is common to both lights.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Generator light is earthed through the generator and the oil light is earthed through the oil pressure switch.

The earth on the speedo is for the high beam light, the fuel gauge and the illumination only.

The wire right at the bottom is live when the ignition is turned On...
pull the terminal on & off a few times to clean the terminals...
The Oil light earths out from the oil pressure sender on the engine...
[the oil sender is the small sender] You may need a new oil sender,,
If You have an alternator, the light Must go ON with the ignition.. and then off after You start the engine..... [alternator charging]
Do You have a generator or an Alternator...???
That is an alternator on My engine...
Generator's are smaller in diameter...

Oil sender is below the distributor...
if You take the wire off the oil sender and earth it to the engine - bare metal.. with the ignition turned ON.. the oil light should go on...
means You need a new oil sender...
