Rhys, hi,
the 1600-1800 bellhousing will fit straight on to the 2lt box but you will notice that the input shaft of the 2lt sticks out a bit further, I think
about 12-15mm. while you've got bellhousing off I believe its fairly easy to swap over the shaft to a 1600-1800 one. The spiggot bush in the end
of the crank has been set up for 1600-1800 input shaft. The 2lt spiggot end is also smaller diameter. Please take the flywheel bolts out a refit with
a bit of Loctite on them (Not sure if I did this when I put it on).
Cheers, Ian. |

The 1600 and the 1700-1800 input shafts are actually different lengths.
The 1600 is short to suit the type 1 motor fitted to those boxes.
The 1700-1800 is longer to suit the type 4 motor.
I think the 1700-1800 and the 2000 input shaft is the same, but not 100% sure.
I also think the 1600 input shaft is the same as a beetle input shaft.
I put a beetle input shaft in my 1800 box when I had it mated to my 1915 type 1 engine, as the type 4 input shaft was too long. People have been known
to simply cut the type 4 input shaft down to length.
