your definition of pop outs must vary to rest of world.
pop outs are the rear (normally) fixed windows, that is the ones on the side of the car, but not in the doors, that have a metal frame around them, and are hinged on the "B" pillar, and "pop out"
I think you are talking about your 1/4 vents, or as they call them in the states "1/4 lights"

Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.

Hi

I think only post 68 bugs had the holes driiled, the ones for the hinges are hard to find, I used a scriber to locate the hinge holes in my car.

My 68 has the holes there for the pop outs and I don't believe they were an option in Australia but could have been standard in South Africa.. and optional in the US.. ....
1/4 lights are from the UK I thought...
along with wings for fenders/guards.
What model Beetle did You put the pop outs in???? Lee

Hi

Mine were in good nick, but my latches are are slightly pitted. You may be able adapt the wiper or headlight knob off an early bug, have some billet ones turned up or try Vintage in Sydney.

WOW!

I was hoping you could get popout windows for the back of beetles, I think we might need them in ours.

so where do you get them from? are they sold as an aftermarket kit, or do I just have to keep my eyes open and find a set for sale?

Bit of both Rota.

Either keep you eyes peeled for 2nd hand. Just make sure it has all the hinges, trim and locks. Other wise it will cost too much to restore them.

I checked VVDS a couple of months ago. Pretty sure he quoted $370+GST.
Call it $400ish. But this is new and no pieces missing

we have an early 1970 beetle, still referred to as a 69 for parts etc. so I dunno how easy that will be, but I will keep an eye out for a set secondhand for now.

Hey, the little dude tells me a Ragtop is an even better way to stay cool in the back.
Don`t reckon you could get any more chilled out than that!
Pop-outs would be cool aswell though!
Surely those "German Folks" would have a few sets that they could send over here!!?? Throw in a few of those 5" Narrow Beams you guys seem to have a pile of too!!
1/4 Lights is the Pommie term Dan.

pop outs

I've just brought a set of pop outs for my oval which were complete with all parts even new rubbers

I'm just happy to have them in my hands as there not easy to come by for an oval no matter what country you live in.

I will be restoring the frames and replacing the rubber to glass seal as I dont want to risk them leaking over a brand new interior after all the hard work going into this car.

I know in australia that these pop outs were not common in bugs but trust me theres plenty of the later style (larger in size than early) out there if you want to import them in. The guy I brought mine from said hes got sets of these coming out of his ears. Dont ask me how much but I could ask. I dont think that there going to be cheap though by the time they get here.

nIck

recycle, restore, enjoy
