Bought a baja!

Woo!
it's a bit rough round the edges and needs to be registered (I hope they dont have engineering issues) but I'm pretty happy!

3 things I immediately don't like about it, one is the exhaust and cage stick out too far, and will probably scrape, so I'll have to fix that. Another is the very yellow paint (bleagh) and the biggest is the "Bad Girl" sticker on the windscreen. no thanks!! LOL

anyway, it's a '68 with disc front, swing arm rear and single port 1600 (apparently, though that'll probably change too)

I paid a grand for it (or will do when it's delivered). the paint is brand new.

Seagull, if you have a 2nd R30 box spare, let me know ;)

I'm using the VW bolt pattern CAD drawing that Baja Wes kindly has available, and I will draw the renault bolt pattern, and make 2 cut out patterns from 20mm alloy plate, then fabricate the bellhousing by welding shaped plates to the motor bellhousing and gearbox bellhousing plates. then I will fit up the clutch mechanism and hydraulic clutch cylinder.

then I'll make sure it works, then either use it as a mould template tfor casting some more, or just make more by straight out fabrication. need to see how well it works first ;)

BTW I don't think I'll use the R30 box project on the baja, it wont get the same punishment the racecar will. well...yes it will, just not in the same way :D

Looks like a great buy :thumb

I'll agree the exhaust and cage need some work though. Street exhausts on Baja's have always puzzled me :puke

Thanks everyone! it should be some fun.

Wes, yeah I can modify the cage and exhaust a bit but I'll see if I can get one first. Why work harder than I have to? :)
