Kombi Gearbox overhaul
The gearbox in my '74 twincab has a bit of a whine and crook synchro on 2nd. Also the motor needs new bearings/rings/seals etc so I thought
I'd do them all together. So....two questions:
1. Is it more straightforward (or even feasible) to remove the engine and gearbox as a single unit, or do we take the engine out first, then the
gearbox ?
2. I am a bit daunted by the idea of dismantling the gearbox, so I was thinking of getting someone else to do it. Can anyone refer me to a reputable
gearbox specialist around Sydney (preferrably Western Sydney) who I can give the 'box to for a quote etc ?
Any help would be verily appreciated !

Since no-one else has replied I'll take a stab at this.
1. I have read that removing gearbox and engine as a unit is easier than removing separately. Makes sense!
2. I believe that you need special tools to do the gearbox (beyond minor stuff). Can't help you beyond that.

motor/gbox reco
If you are going to get that all fixed may as well let the workshop pull everything out. That way if they find something else wrong they can sort it
at the same time.
All you have to do is drive in and drive out.
Indian is very good for gearboxes and suspension, but prefers not to do engine work. Just not their specialty.
Try.
Klaack motors,
at Lackey st, Fairfield. They'll do the lot and are very reasonable.:thumb
They rebuilt motors for myself and my bro and are great guys.

reco gearbox
other members on this site have recommended Bruce Geddes Automotive, in Peakhurst. They do motors and gearboxes. There Ph No. 02 9533 3040
