What do you think,
I took a photo today of this mystery I have, I think the car was turqoise originally, but not sure, I "think" this is the original paint,
anyone know why they paint there, or what you think the paint is,

* big image I know, but Im using my own space so I don't think it will use aussieveedubbers bandwith, (I think)
Many thanks

hmmm, pick the location.... I know, its under the back seat of a bug - looking at the floor! (Am I right?)
I always thought that the floors were painted a dark grey/charcol colour in the factory (I'm not sure of this though), so perhaps someone has
painted this area on your car to stop any rust (if it is under the back seat it is quite likely as most bugs have some rust in this area). It also
looks to me like someone has also sprayed rustproofing over the paint - hence the brownish look to the paint....
thats my guess....

yep your right, its on the other side, there doesnt seem to be any sign of pervious rust, but I have noticed over areas of the car have this sticky
shit like this as well,
but the headliner near the sunvisors has it too, like glue :?
if anyone is crafty perhaps think of a place they would have not painted over
The car seems to be all over purple,

I always thought the chassis were black, maybe because I always painted them black... Yes , it looks like some one has fish oiled or waxed it with
something..
That is NOT the original colour of the car as all beetles I can remember looking at are that colour under the back seat and on the sides where the
voltage regulator
was mounted (in pre Alternator Beetles)
Overseas Beetles were sprayed with WAXOYL to stop rust .

A tricky one - sounds like someone did a really good job of painting it! OK try a few of these areas - behind the door cards in the back of the car
(not on the doors as if the doors have been replaced at some stage (due to damage or rust) they will not be the original colour of the car, under the
fuel tank, behind the dashboard (where all the wiring is), um..., behind the soundproofing boards in the engine bay (be careful not to damage these
boards if they are in good condition), er, thats about all the places I can think of at the moment - any other sugestions anyone....?

...oh yeah - check the underneath of the parcel shelf (above the gearbox) too. This is one place that is usually too difficult to get to when
painting....

sounds like a fairly good chance that the car was white to start with - Pearl White is the most likely colour - used extensivly on Beetles around this
time (my '63 started life Pearl White, my Brother owns a Pearl White '61 and his '65 Westy camper is also Pearl white.)

The sticky sh*t you are referring to may be tar used as sound proofing, i found some under the carpet of my golf near the wheel arches. I dunno just a
guess.
