why is it?
that...
i look at the oil my car drips with pride?
i'm a master of 'the dance of the cold morning' (clutch, gas, cluthc, gas, clutch, clutch, gas) and i enjoy it?
everyone that drives a VW has a name for them?
before long everyone calls them by that name.
i enjoy it when people with oodles more power and tourque than my hoon past me because i'm just in a volkswagen?
i get excited when someone in a VW waves at me?
everyone now knows me as 'the VW nut' (i'm not obsessed - honest )
i feel like i belong to a small fraternity despite the fact that i drive the most common car in the world?
...
come on people - keep it rolling

Why is it that my rough-around-the-edges '75 kombi gets pride of place in the garage, while my girlfriend's 'new' $12,000
2000-model Hyundai sits in the driveway exposed to sun, rain, and birdshit?
Why is it that her kids would rather travel in my kombi than the air-conditioned and cd-player-equipped shiny red Hyundai?

why is it that each day when i walk to the garage i know the one vehicle that is guaranteed to start first time every time, is the triumph sprint.
why is it that i really dont care....
why is it that when i starts to rain i have to really think whether i want to close the safaris or leave them open and enjoy the climate.
and most of all, why is that once you get more than one vw in your back yard that they magically breed and produce more vw's.... or is that
just the excuse i try and pass off to everybody, as afterall once you give them a name they become life like. (might call me next one fluffy---the
rabbit)

Why is it that i bought my wife a $16,000 new car.
And the Beetle still gets the garage and the new car is out in the weather.

why is it that when everyone around you is calling your baby a 'bomb', an 'eyesore', a 'waste of money' a
'deathtrap' a 'heap' or seventeen million other considered and derogatory names it makes me more determined to keep it? Why is it
when the reasonable questions of reliablity and safety and comfort crop up about VW's my normally logical and functioning brain goes and plays
with a donkey in a paddock, leaving my mouth free to explain the inordinate amount of money spent on something that requires little or no upkeep? why
is it that 'unsafe at any speed' now means 'cruisin in comfort'?

Why is it..... you curse and cuss your car because of the bits constantly falling off or breaking,, dread the cost, time, inconveinience of fixing the
problems, curse and cuss as you bash your knuckles whilst saving a buck or ten diy, or are left without a car for a week or so, with cabin fever
setting in and realise how much you miss seeing it waiting by the window like a faithful doggg ...... once completed, all of the stress drops away,
the cost is irrelivent... you get back behind the wheel, turn the ignition ... .. .. . "ahhhhh,, its good to be home.... lets ridddeee!".
