Hello from new member in UK
Hi,
Just registered, but i've lurked here for a while.
I'm looking to move to Australia in about 6 months (if all goes to plan!!!) and have been trying to find various bits of info about owning dubs
over there. Hopefully someone can help?
Having had my fair share of bugs and busses over the last six or seven years, i'm thinking about buggies and 914, as well as a crew cab (seem to
be as hard to find over there as they are over here!). But I've got a few questions.
Is it possible to build your own beach buggy over there? or do you have to buy from some sort of registered manufacturer? The law over here has
recently changed, you can build a long wheel base easily, but a short wheel base needs a special inspection... is it the same over there?
The other thing is the left hand drive idea. If I was to go 914 (sorry if i shouldnt be asking this here, but in my experience, porsche owners tend to
be a bit pompous(?)), it'd have to start off LHD as they didnt make 'em RHD (although theres a few conversions floating about). Now
I've heard that you cant register LHDs in Australia, is this true?

too).

LHD
In some of the states, not sure if its all of them, you can register LHD if the car would be considered a "classic", ie: the changeover
would consderably decrease the value of the car (or something to that effect) Check the main roads Dept web site of whichever state you are going to
move to.

LHD
As far as i know you can register any car lhd as long as its thirty years or older. I only know this cause my boyfriend wants to get a lhd 64'
Chev Impala.

Alex, that'd be great! All I'm really after is how difficult it is and how to get one registered and whether its easier to do it to a long
wheel base.
I've no problems with the work, can weld and build up engines/susp/brakes etc competently.

Hello
I'm originally from the UK, have been living here for nearly 8 years. I've nearly accumulated a VW for every year I have been here.
Buggies can be registered here in LWB or SWB you just need to get everything engineer certified.
You can now drive LHD cars over here, but only ones over a certain age. Most people convert to RHD. As for RHD 914's I know someone who is

356s are one of my all time favourites. Its more the later 911 crowd... only in my experience like
How hard is it to get an engineers report? Are we talking MOT style or more strict?
I saw that 914 just after i'd posted... pity it wasnt in 6 months time!

I'm from Solihull in the West Midlands. Been here 51/2 years! Drive a 67 bug and just getting into the swing of things out here. Not as many

with the buggies i think you will find next to impossible to register a new SWB.
One that has been registered can continue to be registered. But dont be talked into buying one cheap that dont have rego. Even if it did have rego may
not mean a gauranteed re-registration
Yes you can register LHD cars 30+ yrs.
Dont think i would like to drive one in Sydney traffic though
